Episode Summary
Duan Banxia tries to appease Jiu Xuanye after her solo mission. Suspicions arise about Kongdongzi's death and a possible life swap, with white crows as omens. Wen Jian narrowly escapes death thanks to a black cat's life-swapping abilities. Duan Yanqiu has a mysterious encounter at an inn. Chu Youhuang tracks down Gao Sheng. Duan Banxia seeks the black cat for information about her father.

Things kick off with a bit of damage control. Duan Banxia is worried that Jiu Xuanye is going to be mad at her and not help her anymore. So, she whips up some hair dye and heads over to butter him up. She absolutely cannot afford to lose Jiu Xuanye's help! She explains that her trip was all about exposing Kongdongzi and preventing those unscrupulous colleagues from ruining reputations. Duan Banxia says she plans to investigate and find a way to expose him, but Jiu Xuanye doesn't believe her at all. He's sulking and ignoring her, so Duan Banxia jumps into action, wrapping a cloth around him and helping him dye his hair. Jiu Xuanye explains that he has plans and tells Duan Banxia not to worry, promising that he will help.
As Duan Banxia spreads Jiu Xuanye's hair, dyeing his white hair black, she accidentally gets dye everywhere. Duan Banxia hurries to wipe it off, which makes Jiu Xuanye a little embarrassed. In the midst of her nervousness, Duan Banxia almost falls, and Jiu Xuanye quickly reaches out to catch her. However, he pulls too hard and pulls Duan Banxia into his arms. They both notice that some of the hair dye is on Duan Banxia's lips, making it look like Jiu Xuanye has a mustache, which makes him laugh.
Back home, Duan Banxia tells Tingzhou about seeing a scar on Jiu Xuanye's chest, suspecting that he might be Manying from her dreams. Tingzhou, however, is more concerned that Duan Banxia saw Jiu Xuanye's chest, reminding her that she's married and shouldn't be getting that close to other men!
Someone saw Gao Sheng leaving the city gate, and on the same day, Kongdongzi died after just tripping. Jiu Xuanye suspects that he may have been life-swapped like Duan Hengying. Duan Banxia also remembers seeing a white crow on Kongdongzi's shoulder and rushes to find Jiu Xuanye, running into Wen Jian leaving. And guess what? There's a white crow circling over Wen Jian's head!
Wen Jian is terrified to go home. Jiu Xuanye figures out that the white crow is Chi Wangchuan's companion demon. He recalls that in the mirror illusion, Chi Wangchuan released a lot of white crows, guessing that the white crows only predict death, but cannot actually kill. If someone is about to die, then the white crow will appear.
Jiu Xuanye encourages Wen Jian to go home and say everything he needs to say, just in case he really does die, although it's not a certainty. Wen Jian reluctantly goes home. His wife initially scolds him for always gambling, but Wen Jian doesn't argue this time. He explains that he never gambled, but just hid some money, and reveals where the money is hidden. His wife doesn't believe him.
That night, Wen Jian falls asleep, and his wife digs up the money, finding that Wen Jian was telling the truth. Suddenly, a black cat appears on the roof, meowing and entering Wen Jian's room, sticking out its tongue as it watches Wen Jian sleep.
Meanwhile, Duan Yanqiu arrives at an inn and wants to stay there. Feng Wuniang is in charge of receiving guests and sees that Duan Yanqiu is from out of town, so she arranges a room for Duan Yanqiu. However, Duan Yanqiu is the only guest there, but the inn has a very large courtyard and many servants. Feng Wuniang prepares food for Duan Yanqiu, who cautiously tests it with a silver needle, and only eats it after confirming that it's not poisonous.
Duan Yanqiu unknowingly drinks too much and comes out to find the innkeeper, seeing Qu Manniang playing the pipa and walking towards him. They gaze at each other affectionately, and Qu Manniang slowly takes Duan Yanqiu's hand and leads him back to his room.
Chu Youhuang brings people to the gambling house to find Gao Sheng, learning that Gao Sheng is indeed alive because his mother used a method to swap his life. They reveal where Gao Sheng is hiding.
The next morning, Duan Banxia comes to find Jiu Xuanye, asking if he has found a solution. Jiu Xuanye is silent, suggesting they go see Wen Jian. But Wen Jian has already left home and is walking down the street when a sign falls and hits him, killing him instantly. Just as Jiu Xuanye and Wen Jian's wife are about to prepare for the funeral, Wen Jian walks out of the room. Under the white cloth is a black cat. Duan Banxia also notices that the white crow flew away when Wen Jian was hit.
Wen Jian's wife reveals that she saw the black cat and, believing the rumors about the cat demon swapping lives, gave all her money to the cat, which apparently saved Wen Jian's life. She also tells Duan Banxia how to swap lives.
That night, Duan Banxia follows Wen Jian's wife's instructions and finds the black cat, wanting to find out about her father. But the black cat suddenly runs away.
