Spoiler Alert
The episode kicks off with a tense confrontation. Situ Hanshan, clearly the villain of the piece, is pressuring Du Fenglei, telling him to stop making him suffer. Du Fenglei, defiant, basically tells Situ Hanshan to try and get rid of him. Situ Hanshan then stoops to a new low, threatening to kill Du Fenglei's relative, Du Yuelian. He's also tipped off by an associate to seek out Fan Yong and his nine children in Lingshanwei, believing they can be of use.
The scene shifts to Lingshanwei, where a boatman on the water spots an empty boat on the shore… occupied by nine creepy children. He urges them to go home, sensing danger, but they vanish in the blink of an eye. The boatman is then killed, unseen, in the water. Clearly, these kids are not to be trifled with.
Meanwhile, Nan Fengyi, Du Yuelian, and their group receive an imperial decree: Lingshanwei is experiencing some kind of water demon activity, and they're sent to deal with it. Du Yuelian and Guo Ji cast spells towards the water, and Du Yuelian realizes something below the surface is actively draining her magic. Nan Fengyi volunteers to investigate underwater. At the same time, Crown Prince Bei Gongshuo is also dispatched to Lingshanwei to provide backup.
Meng Xizhou asks the Crown Prince where he is going, to which he respond that he is going to Lingshanwei, where demons have been reported. Meng Xizhou wants to tag along, citing her ability to identify demons with her "demon-detecting eyes," and the Prince reluctantly agrees.
Meng Xizhou arrives in Lingshanwei and immediately spots Du Yuelian, who correctly guesses that Meng Xizhou is looking for Nan Fengyi. Huo Ting and Huo Xiao show up, exchange some snarky remarks with Meng Xizhou, and leave. Du Yuelian, concerned, warns Meng Xizhou about the dangerous water demon and suggests she stick with the Crown Prince.
Meng Xizhou then encounters an old man who tells her about a man who fell into the water while trying to save someone. Realizing it must be Nan Fengyi, she uses her umbrella to travel underwater. She finds an underwater dwelling and, sure enough, Nan Fengyi is trapped, facing the nine eerie children.
The children recognize Meng Xizhou's golden roc wings, identifying her as one of their kind – a demon. They accuse her of being a traitor for associating with humans. Meng Xizhou tries to reason with them, saying that not all humans are bad, but they're not having it. An argument breaks out, giving Meng Xizhou a splitting headache. Nan Fengyi, losing patience, tells her to stop negotiating. However, before he can act, the children's father, Fan Yong, arrives, and he's not interested in peaceful solutions.
Nan Fengyi, seeing the situation escalate, uses his powers to restrain the children. Fan Yong tries to attack Meng Xizhou from behind, but Nan Fengyi intercepts, getting injured in the process. Meng Xizhou quickly carries him away, escaping. Situ Hanshan, witnessing their flight, tells Fan Yong that if he can't capture Meng Xizhou, he'll take Fan Yong and his children's demon cores for his own use. Fan Yong tries to argue, but Situ Hanshan's power has increased, and he steals Fan Yong's demon core.
Du Yuelian finds a feather on the ground, realizing it belongs to Meng Xizhou. She calls out to her, and Meng Xizhou reveals herself, injured. As they talk, a poisoned dart flies towards them, and Meng Xizhou uses her wings to shield Du Yuelian.
Du Yuelian says she will remove Meng Xizhou's name from the Celestial Master's registry. Meng Xizhou asks if she can at least remain on her list of friends. Back at the Eastern Palace, Meng Xizhou tells Bei Gongshuo she's leaving, not wanting to endanger him. She then goes to the Nan family umbrella shop to say goodbye to Nan Sixu, but encounters Nan Fengyi.
Meng Xizhou explains she's leaving, believing that humans and demons are too different. Nan Fengyi counters by revealing his true identity: Bai Zeyi, a descendant of the Bai Ze family. He also reveals that Nan Sixu is not his father, but his uncle. He tells Meng Xizhou to stay, that this is her home too. They embrace, but then Nan Fengyi suddenly jumps into the water from the room. Meng Xizhou playfully declares she'll protect his "virgin boy body," and Nan Fengyi insists they sleep separately.
