Spoiler Alert
Nan Fengyi is crafting dough figurines, and he's become particularly fond of bird shapes lately. He cooks some for Meng Xizhou. As they eat, Meng Xizhou reflects on Nan Fengyi's ambition to master the Beidou Yuan Formation, a powerful technique he intends to use to find the mythical Shan Hai Tu (a classic Chinese text about mythical creatures) and capture all demons. She worries if he will capture her, too. Nan Fengyi reassures her, embracing her and promising he'd never harm her. Meng Xizhou finds herself wishing, perhaps, that he wouldn't succeed in mastering the formation.
Meanwhile, Du Fenglei marvels at Situ Hanshan's power, noting his ability to kill his own kind and use their demon cores to heal himself. However, Du Fenglei also points out the backlash Situ Hanshan suffers from these actions. He reveals that Situ Hanshan is desperate to fulfill a wish: to have his daughter, Du Yuelian, call him "father" (using the more formal and respectful term "A'ye"). Du Fenglei's obsession will disappear when his wish is complete. Situ Hanshan, now possessing Du Fenglei's body, goes to the Nan family umbrella shop seeking repairs on an old umbrella, claiming it's a memento from Du Yuelian's deceased mother and a gift for her upcoming 18th birthday.
Nan Fengyi agrees to repair the umbrella, with Meng Xizhou watching him work. As Nan Fengyi paints plum blossoms on the umbrella, they magically bloom. He romantically tells Meng Xizhou that he'll personally craft an umbrella for their wedding day, teasing her about whether she's certain she'll marry him.
Later, Meng Xizhou delivers the repaired umbrella to Du Yuelian. Du Yuelian shares the umbrella's tragic history: during a time of unrest, her mother was murdered by a scorpion demon while waiting for Du Fenglei, who was busy hunting demons. Her mother's blood stained the umbrella, later incorporated into the plum blossom design. Meng Xizhou empathizes, understanding Du Yuelian's resentment and her drive to hunt demons.
Back home, Du Yuelian finds a birthday feast prepared. She gives her father, Du Fenglei (who is actually Situ Hanshan) some food, who carefully picks out the coriander. After the meal, Guo Ji, Du Fenglei's subordinate, reveals his suspicions, noting that the real Du Fenglei loved coriander and hasn't drunk tea in a long time.
Confronted, Situ Hanshan drops the pretense, revealing his demonic powers. Guo Ji, seeking power, pledges allegiance and receives a token from Situ Hanshan, promising to kill Nan Fengyi and Meng Xizhou. Situ Hanshan, to accelerate his plan, takes Du Yuelian to the opera. However, it's a trap. Du Yuelian and her allies have deduced the imposter's identity, as only Situ Hanshan in Changle City dislikes coriander.
