Spoiler Alert

The episode kicks off with a blaze at the Ministry of Justice morgue. Meng Xizhou, locked up in a cell, hears about the fire and panics. If Pei Xun's body is destroyed, she'll lose the only evidence that could prove her innocence. She busts out of her cell and races to the morgue, finding it engulfed in flames. Undeterred, she plunges into the inferno, determined to retrieve Pei Xun's body.

Inside, she discovers Hui Fang, bound by magic. Her own powers are too weak to free him, so she heroically drags him out. Hui Fang is safe, but Meng Xizhou is still set on getting Pei Xun's body, telling Hui Fang to vouch for her if she doesn't make it out.

Meanwhile, Nan Fengyi spots the arsonist, a shadowy figure in black, and gives chase. They clash, and Nan Fengyi notices the attacker's weapon matches Meng Xizhou's description of Pei Xun's hidden blade. He remembers her claim that Pei Xun used ice daggers, which would melt without a trace. Realizing Meng Xizhou was telling the truth, he sees the arsonist heading towards the morgue. Suddenly, he's pulled by an unknown force, landing right beside Meng Xizhou.

Nan Fengyi urges Meng Xizhou to escape the dangerous fire, but she insists he save Pei Xun first, or she'll never clear her name. Nan Fengyi assures her he won't let an innocent person be wrongly accused, but she's adamant. He relents, hauling Pei Xun's body out. When he returns for Meng Xizhou, a burning beam crashes down, but Nan Fengyi, with a surge of unexpected power, holds it back. He warns Meng Xizhou to keep his newfound strength a secret, and she agrees.

Elsewhere, demon hunters Du Yuelian and Bei Gongshuo from the Celestial Master's Residence detect a powerful demonic presence. Du Yuelian encounters the arsonist and his boss, who flee upon seeing her.

Back at the morgue, Hui Fang tells Nan Fengyi that Pei Xun's body is incredibly tough, impossible to cut. He'd been trying all night, only to be attacked and bound by the arsonist. Meng Xizhou saved his life. Meng Xizhou explains that bodies infested with Gu Insects are like that – indestructible unless you find their weak point.

Nan Fengyi, aware of her Demon-Discerning Eyes, asks her to examine Pei Xun's body. She's scared but agrees to assist while Hui Fang performs the autopsy. They find a Gu Insect, which Meng Xizhou captures.

Du Yuelian returns to the Celestial Master's Residence, where her father, Du Fenglei, orders her to ignore the "minor demon." She rebels. Meanwhile, Zhao Qingbai is seen with numerous Gu Insects, his intentions unclear.

Nan Fengyi experiments and realizes that his powers are drawn to Meng Xizhou when he's near her. With him close, Meng Xizhou feels empowered and can use her Demon-Discerning Eyes. He asks her to keep his secret, and she proposes he become her master and teach her magic.

Meng Xizhou visits Sikong She in prison, mentioning his cat. Sikong She, recognizing it as his pet, Ah Hua, promises Meng Xizhou a house if she cares for it. Meng Xizhou and Nan Fengyi go to Sikong's residence and find Ah Hua. Meng Xizhou uses her ability to communicate with the cat, learning that Ah Hua witnessed Pei Xun's murder. Ah Hua reveals that Zhao Qingbai has infested Situ Mansion with over a hundred Gu Insects. Nan Fengyi suspects Situ Hanshan is behind it all. He kills Ah Hua, and a devastated Meng Xizhou buries the cat, finding the deed to the house promised by Sikong She, which Nan Fengyi snatches away.
