Xu Chengyuan, flaunting his rich-kid status, tries to shower Qi Ji with expensive tonics like ginseng and deer antler, leaving Qi Ji amused and exasperated. Meanwhile, Qi Xuejun, Qi Ji’s father, comes to confront Zhang Chi, blaming him for Qi Ji's hospitalization despite Zhang Chi's prior assurances of protecting her. Zhang Chi can only offer apologies and sweet-talk his way out of the situation.
Xu Chengyuan, already aware of Zhang Chi's feelings for Qi Ji, encourages Qi Ji to consider a relationship with him, but Qi Ji dismisses his suggestion. Zhang Chi asks the head nurse to take special care of Qi Ji. The head nurse, grateful to Zhang Chi for performing heart surgery on her daughter, makes special arrangements. Qi Xuejun then learns that Zhang Chi was previously a cardiac surgeon at Beishi Hospital and wonders why he switched to emergency medicine. Zhang Chi, unable to explain, diverts the conversation, urging Qi Xuejun to take his own health seriously. Qi Xuejun, however, stubbornly insists he's not sick.
Xu Chengyuan continues his attempts to play matchmaker between Qi Ji and Zhang Chi, much to Qi Ji's annoyance. She eventually forces Xu Chengyuan to leave. Qi Ji calls Director Lu, requesting Zhang Chi be assigned to a different ambulance crew, while also praising his work. Zhang Chi overhears the conversation, his heart swelling with warmth. After her IV drip, Qi Ji's condition improves, and she insists on checking out of the hospital, despite Zhang Chi's objections.
Not wanting to worry her mother, Zeng Li, Qi Ji plans to stay at Sun Jiaqi's place for the night, but Sun Jiaqi is out of town visiting her grandfather. Qi Ji decides to stay at a hotel, but due to a convention in Jiangdong, all the hotels are fully booked. Zhang Chi offers Qi Ji his guest room for the night. Qi Ji, concerned about gossip, is hesitant but ultimately has nowhere else to go.
Zhang Chi sets Qi Ji up in the guest room and even cooks her a bowl of noodles. Qi Ji compliments his cooking and expresses a craving for jellyfish salad. Zhang Chi, however, only keeps five jellyfish as pets and is reluctant to part with them. Xu Chengyuan's crew receives a call from the command center. He arrives at the patient's home to find a patient who fainted while doing housework. Xu Chengyuan wants to perform a routine check, but the family is anxious to get to the hospital and refuses any examination. He compromises by having them sign a liability waiver.
Director Lu assigns Zhang Chi to work with Zheng Bo. They respond to an emergency call from a young girl, Nana, who is experiencing leg pain and can't walk. Zheng Bo conducts a routine inquiry, but Nana's uncle is impatient, believing that a swollen leg doesn't warrant a 120 call. Zhang Chi suspects Nana has deep vein thrombosis (DVT), explaining the seriousness of the condition. Nana's mother reluctantly agrees to take her to the hospital for further examination.
The doctor confirms Nana has DVT. Nana's mother is extremely grateful to Zhang Chi, who advises her to listen to doctors' suggestions in the future. Zheng Bo is impressed by Zhang Chi's deduction, which was based on Nana's packed daily schedule, suggesting exhaustion-induced thrombosis.
Qi Ji notices Zhang Chi's fridge is empty and stocks it with groceries, informing him via text. The elderly woman Xu Chengyuan attended to, a specialist receiving a State Council allowance, is in critical condition in the ICU and still in danger. The family blames Xu Chengyuan, complaining he didn't conduct a pre-hospital examination. Xu Chengyuan protests, explaining he wanted to examine the patient, but the family refused, which is why he had them sign the waiver.
Zeng Li recalls Qi Ji's request to move out after graduating from university, which Qi Xuejun vehemently opposed. Zeng Li advises Qi Xuejun to let go of Qi Ji, or he'll ruin her chances of finding love. Qi Xuejun believes the real issue is Qi Ji's busy work schedule, leaving her no time for dating. He plans to ask her leadership to change Qi Ji's position. Zeng Li tries to dissuade him, but he ignores her. Qi Xuejun visits Secretary Liu, intending to have Qi Ji resign from the emergency center. Secretary Liu urges him to be calm and respect Qi Ji's decision.
Zhang Chi overhears Qi Xuejun's words and steps in to defend Qi Ji, emphasizing her passion for her work and urging Qi Xuejun not to interfere. A patient with a severed hand arrives to present a banner of gratitude to Qi Ji and Zhang Chi, also wanting to apologize to Qi Ji. Qi Xuejun, learning that the patient had slapped Qi Ji, furiously scolds the patient, who expresses deep regret. Zhang Chi reminds the patient to trust medical professionals in the future.
Qi Ji learns about her father's visit to Secretary Liu and rushes home to confront him, complaining about his interference in her work. The father and daughter clash, and Qi Ji, in a fit of anger, decides to move out. Zeng Li tries to reason with her, but Qi Ji is determined. She vents her frustrations to Zeng Li and packs her belongings, leaving home that night.
Qi Ji tries to go to Sun Jiaqi's place, but Sun Jiaqi is still at her grandfather's. Qi Ji goes to the emergency center's break room, but it's full. She tries to check into a hotel, only to realize her ID is missing. Suspecting Qi Xuejun took it, she calls Zeng Li to confirm, declaring she'd rather sleep on the streets than go home.
Desperate, Qi Ji turns to Zhang Chi for help. Zhang Chi lays down some ground rules, which Qi Ji memorizes. Later that night, Qi Ji suddenly screams for help. Zhang Chi rushes to her room, finding the door locked. He uses a spare key to open it, only to discover Qi Ji was having a nightmare. He's left both exasperated and amused. The next morning, Qi Ji finds her belongings missing, thinking there's been a break-in. Zhang Chi explains he tidied up the room and presents her with the signed agreement of his house rules.
