The episode opens with Qi Ji getting sick. Meanwhile, Zhang Chi is on duty with Cui Yuming's team, responding to an emergency call about an elderly woman suffering from a gas leak. The neighbor who discovered the situation had already shut off the gas and opened the kitchen windows, a move Zhang Chi commends.
The elderly woman's son arrives, frantic. As the team works to save the woman, Zhang Chi, remembering his wife's call about taking their son, Sanbao, to her family's home, notices toys near the gas stove. He has a bad feeling and asks Sanbao's dad to check the other rooms. It turns out Sanbao is unconscious in a bedroom. Thanks to Zhang Chi's quick thinking, Sanbao is rescued in the nick of time, and his father is overwhelmed with gratitude. Back home, Zhang Chi finds that Qi Ji has redecorated his apartment with bright, colorful accents, trying to lighten up what she sees as a gloomy space. Zhang Chi is bemused by the sudden change.
Tragedy strikes elsewhere. Cui Yuming's son, Dongdong, falls down the stairs at school. Initially, he seems fine, but he later starts vomiting and loses consciousness. He's rushed to the hospital, where the doctor diagnoses him with a traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, requiring immediate surgery. Cui Yuming's wife refuses to sign the consent form, and when Cui Yuming arrives, she unleashes her fury on him. He takes it all, speechless.
Director Lu grants Cui Yuming a few days off to be with Dongdong, but Cui Yuming returns to work, leaving Dongdong in the care of his wife and mother. Zhang Chi asks Director Dai to recommend the best neurosurgeon, and Director Dai immediately makes calls. Meanwhile, Xu Chengyuan is attending to an elderly patient, Grandma Mu, who is critically ill. She wants to see Xu Chengyuan, knowing her time is near. Mustering his courage, Xu Chengyuan visits her.
Grandma Mu, with her last breath, encourages Xu Chengyuan not to feel pressured. She understands his actions, recalling how 120 emergency doctors saved her husband when he suddenly died during an experiment. Xu Chengyuan, deeply moved, holds her hand tightly. Soon after, Grandma Mu passes away, leaving Xu Chengyuan deeply affected.
Xu Chengyuan visits Grandma Mu's grave, accompanied by Zheng Bo and Zhang Chi. He regrets not insisting on a pre-hospital examination for Grandma Mu, and even though she didn't blame him, he can't shake off the guilt. He vows never to compromise his principles again. Director Dai arranges for a specialist to operate on Dongdong, and the surgery is successful. Qi Ji and Zhang Chi visit Dongdong, who declares he wants to be a rescue doctor when he grows up. His mother, however, is firmly against it, not wanting him to endure the relentless work hours like Cui Yuming. Zhang Chi and Qi Ji are left with mixed feelings.
To relieve stress, Zhang Chi suggests a trip to the supermarket, and Qi Ji enthusiastically agrees. Coincidentally, Qi Xuejun and Zeng Li are also at the same supermarket. Seeing Zhang Chi and Qi Ji laughing together, Qi Xuejun secretly follows them back to Zhang Chi's apartment. Qi Ji produces a rental agreement, proving she's just renting a room from Zhang Chi. Qi Xuejun, worried about gossip, demands Qi Ji move back home, but she refuses.
Zeng Li interrogates Zhang Chi, while Qi Ji distracts him by making pizza. Zeng Li thinks Zhang Chi is a good guy, but Qi Xuejun strongly opposes Qi Ji dating a colleague. Qi Ji clarifies that they are just colleagues and even offers to write a guarantee, finally appeasing Qi Xuejun. Qi Ji and Zhang Chi's constant togetherness at work sparks rumors among their colleagues. They publicly announce their landlord-tenant relationship to dispel the gossip.
Sanbao's father, hearing about Dongdong's hospitalization, offers a sum of money to Cui Yudong. Hua Zi, delivering a meal, mentions that he and Grandpa Cheng donated to Sanbao's father, a gesture of goodwill praised by the rescue center staff. Cui Yufan invites Qi Xuejun for a drink, and Qi Xuejun vents his frustrations. Qu Yufan believes Zhang Chi and Qi Ji are a good match and congratulates Qi Xuejun, who, reflecting on Zhang Chi's good qualities, feels a bit relieved. He and Qu Yufan share a drink.
Zhang Chi tries to give the rescue center's donation to Cui Yudong's wife, but she refuses. Cui Yudong, arriving with food, also declines the money, suggesting Zhang Chi give it to patients in greater need. His wife, having witnessed the medical staff's efforts to save Dongdong, understands Cui Yudong's dedication better. The couple reconciles, and Cui Yudong records Dongdong's wish to become a rescue doctor like him, leaving Zhang Chi deeply moved.
