The episode opens with Tao Tao on a field trip in the mountainous Luoping Village, capturing the local scenery. Disaster strikes when a torrential downpour triggers a devastating mudslide. Homes are destroyed, and villagers are trapped, including Tao Tao.
The command center dispatches two rescue teams: one led by Qi Ji and the other by Zhang Chi. Road access to the village is blocked by landslides, forcing the teams to make a daring decision. Zhang Chi orders everyone to carry the essential medical equipment and proceed on foot.
The rescuers trek through treacherous terrain, finally reaching Luoping Village. The village director briefs them on the situation, and they are met by the fire department and other rescuers. Captain Zhao Qingming informs them that the ambulances are stuck outside the village, and he immediately arranges for a team to clear the road.
Qi Ji and Zhang Chi prioritize the critically injured, preparing them for transport. Zhang Chi learns that Tao Tao is among the severely wounded. He rushes with Huang Hao to her aid, reminding Qi Ji to stay safe.
Tao Tao is found unconscious. Zhang Chi and Huang Hao work tirelessly, calling out to her. She briefly regains consciousness, feeling drowsy. Zhang Chi's examination reveals multiple fractures and a dangerous drop in blood pressure, suggesting internal bleeding. He stabilizes her neck and, fearing she might slip away, keeps talking to her. Firefighters arrive to help move Tao Tao. In a moment of vulnerability, Tao Tao expresses her wish to marry Zhang Chi after being rescued. Huang Hao, moved by her plight, assures her that Zhang Chi agrees.
Meanwhile, Qi Ji and her colleagues face another emergency: a villager suffering from asphyxiation. They perform CPR, and after a grueling effort, the patient's heart starts beating again. Qi Ji collapses from exhaustion.
Another call for help arrives – two critically injured individuals are trapped in a three-story building. Zhang Chi rushes to the scene. One victim struggles to breathe due to chest tightness, but Zhang Chi manages to stabilize him, and he's carried away by rescue workers.
Zhang Chi turns his attention to the other victim, a man overwhelmed by fear. The building is unstable. The man pleads with Zhang Chi to save his daughter trapped upstairs. Zhang Chi hands the man over to the rescue team and climbs up to rescue the little girl. Che Ming arrives to assist, and together they get the girl out. Tragically, the building collapses, burying Che Ming under the rubble.
Zhang Chi, along with Chen Da and Li Huohuo, frantically dig Che Ming out. Qi Ji provides immediate medical care, and Che Ming is rushed to the hospital. Che Ming's wife, Liu Le, arrives, and Qi Ji tries to comfort her. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, Che Ming succumbs to his injuries. Liu Le faints from grief, leaving Qi Ji and Zhang Chi heartbroken.
In the aftermath, the city's health officials commend the medical personnel involved in the rescue operation. Che Ming is posthumously awarded a first-class merit. Liu Le delivers a tearful speech, and the officials lead everyone in an oath.
Dong Xiaoqiu, Qi Ji, Huang Hao, and Zhang Chi visit Che Ming's grave, reminiscing about his life and reflecting on the sacred duty of emergency medical work.
The episode shifts to a more personal note. Zhang Beihai invites Sun Yimo for a drink, ordering the same "old three dishes" Sun Yimo loved twenty years ago. Sun Yimo finally lets go of his grudge against Zhang Beihai after learning the truth about Qin Shuhua's suicide from Zhang Chi. Sun Yimo, a top medical school graduate, had always looked down on Zhang Beihai, who only had a technical secondary school education. He couldn't understand why Qin Shuhua chose Zhang Beihai over him.
A flashback reveals that twenty years ago, Director Zhao wanted to promote Zhang Beihai to deputy director. Zhang Beihai, uninterested in administrative work, was solely focused on treating patients. Director Zhao urged him to be more ambitious, warning him that he would drift further apart from Qin Shuhua, pointing out a front-page newspaper article about her. Zhang Beihai remained confident in his relationship with Qin Shuhua.
Zhang Beihai's friendly nature allowed him to get along with everyone. Sun Yimo warned him not to flirt with other women and to remain faithful to Qin Shuhua. Zhang Beihai, refusing to explain himself, had repeatedly tried to set Sun Yimo up with other women. Sun Yimo, deeply offended, stormed off without eating.
