The episode opens with a focus on Sun Yimo's enduring, unrequited love for Qin Shuhua. Years ago, Qin Shuhua married Zhang Beihai, leaving Sun Yimo heartbroken and single ever since. Zhang Beihai recalls a young nurse, Xiaoyue, who was instantly smitten with Sun Yimo when she first joined the emergency station. Xiaoyue actively pursued learning from him, and Sun Yimo reluctantly agreed.
A young boy gets his foot trapped in a bicycle wheel. Zhang Beihai, accompanied by Xiaoyue, responds to the call. He easily frees the boy and subtly tries to play matchmaker between Xiaoyue and Dongzi. However, Xiaoyue's heart has been set on Sun Yimo since her university days, viewing him as her idol. Zhang Beihai realizes he can't change her feelings.
Xiaoyue continues to express her affection for Sun Yimo, but he rebuffs her advances and actively avoids her. Zhang Beihai, sensing Sun Yimo's inner turmoil, urges him to consider giving Xiaoyue a chance. Xiaoyue makes another heartfelt confession, but Sun Yimo directly rejects her. Zhang Beihai has been researching psychological disorders, and Sun Yimo becomes curious. Zhang Beihai, however, is desperate to hide the fact that Qin Shuhua suffered from a mental illness. He tries to distract Sun Yimo by again suggesting he not miss out on Xiaoyue, but Sun Yimo is still consumed by his feelings for Qin Shuhua.
Sun Yimo blames Zhang Beihai for not revealing Qin Shuhua's condition earlier, believing Zhang Beihai was responsible for her death. He angrily threatens to resign and leave Jiangdong. Zhang Beihai wants to talk things through and invites Sun Yimo to their usual small restaurant. Sun Yimo never shows up. Zhang Beihai, realizing Sun Yimo may never forgive him, drinks heavily alone, overwhelmed by the painful memory of Qin Shuhua's tragic death.
Later, Zhang Beihai and Sun Yimo finally clear the air, sharing drinks and reminiscing. They never imagined they'd be able to drink together again. They reflect on the last time they, along with Dongzi and others, dined at the small restaurant, dreaming about the future of the emergency station.
The episode also features Xu Chengyuan, who, despite recovering from a severe injury (a steel bar piercing his body), experiences frequent discomfort due to its proximity to his heart. Doctors advise him to avoid the high-stress work of an emergency doctor. Xu Chengyuan decides to resign. Zheng Bo suggests a desk job, but Xu Chengyuan would rather help at his father's company than watch his colleagues work while he can't contribute.
Xu Chengyuan arrives at the emergency center to finalize his resignation. Zhang Chi and Qi Ji are saddened by his departure. Xu Chengyuan tearfully bids them farewell. Witnessing this, Zhang Chi resolves to give up his research work abroad and stay at the emergency center.
Zhang Chi gathers the courage to visit Zhang Beihai at home. He sees Zhang Beihai returning from grocery shopping, chatting amiably with neighbors, inviting them to a health lecture, and even planning to bring a defibrillator to a square dancing competition. The neighbors clearly respect Zhang Beihai.
Zhang Beihai is overjoyed to see Zhang Chi. He rushes home to cook for him. Zhang Chi enters the room he used to occupy, flooded with childhood memories. Zhang Beihai prepares Zhang Chi's favorite dish, stir-fried zheergen (a type of root vegetable) with meat, even though he dislikes it himself. He always buys it, hoping Zhang Chi will come home to eat. Zhang Chi is deeply touched.
Zhang Chi wants to move back home, which delights Zhang Beihai. He prepares a bath for Zhang Chi and provides him with new bedding and pajamas. Zhang Beihai also makes a cup of mairujing (a malted milk drink), Zhang Chi's childhood favorite. Zhang Chi prefers to eat the powder dry, getting it all over his mouth, which makes Zhang Beihai chuckle. These memories bring Zhang Chi immense warmth. That night, Zhang Chi dreams of his mother, Qin Shuhua, calling him to dinner. He wakes up to see his parents sitting at the table, chatting and laughing.
Meanwhile, Sun Jiaqi and Zheng Bo celebrate their one-month anniversary. Sun Jiaqi gifts him a watch, and Zheng Bo presents her with flowers. They take photos to commemorate the occasion. Liu Zhigang recommends Qi Ji for a support mission in Gansu. Qi Ji wants to discuss it with his parents.
Tao Tao arrives with her household registration book, intending to register her marriage with Zhang Chi, shocking him. Chen Xue and Dong Xiaoqiu witness this and assume Zhang Chi has been unfaithful. Zhang Chi clarifies that he has a girlfriend. Tao Tao insists he break up with her, claiming he promised to marry her. Zhang Chi then remembers that it was Luo Jiaping who made the promise that day, followed by Huang Hao also agreeing to marry Tao Tao.
Sun Jiaqi goes to Zheng Bo's company and sees him discussing business with a female client. She leaves in a huff. Zheng Bo chases after her, hoping to have dinner with her later. Sun Jiaqi, not wanting to interrupt his work, tells him to go back.
