Episode Summary
Qi Ji faces family drama and workplace challenges. Her father, upset about her injury, pressures her to quit her job and disapproves of Zhang Chi. A superstitious patient's mother causes a scene, and workplace dynamics are explored through Sun Jiaqi's complaints and a team meeting. The episode opens with Qi Ji dealing with the aftermath of a facial injury sustained while rescuing a patient. Chaochao's mother scratched her face. Not wanting to worry her parents, Qi Ji crashes at Sun Jiaqi's place for three days. Her parents, Qi Xuejun and Zeng Li, visit to bring her food. They find out about the injury, and Qi Xuejun, in a fit of protective anger, immediately blames Zhang Chi, who was on duty with Qi Ji. Qi Ji defends Zhang Chi, but her father is furious and storms off to confront Director Lu, demanding an explanation. Director Lu tries to smooth things over, assuring Qi Xuejun that the male doctors on the team will protect Qi Ji, but Qi Xuejun dismisses Zhang Chi as a coward.
Zhang Chi, overhearing everything, bursts into the room and vows to protect Qi Ji in the future. Soon after, Qi Ji receives a call from the dispatch center about a pregnant woman, Yunyun, who has fainted in the park. She and Zhang Chi rush to the scene, with Qi Xuejun following closely behind in his car. At the park, they assess Yunyun, suspecting heatstroke, and provide her with ice packs. Yunyun regains consciousness, but her mother becomes agitated when she sees that both Qi Ji and Zhang Chi's employee ID numbers contain the number 4, which she considers unlucky. She refuses to let them near Yunyun.
Qi Xuejun, unable to stand by, gives Yunyun's mother a piece of his mind, with Qi Ji trying to calm him down. Meanwhile, Sun Jiaqi, who works at the emergency dispatch center, vents to her colleagues about the overwhelming number of calls she receives – 10% being harassment and 90% being non-emergencies. Chen Xue sympathizes and suggests raising awareness on a TV show she's going to participate in, urging the public not to misuse the 120 emergency hotline. Sun Jiaqi receives a message from a colleague and rushes off before Qi Ji returns.
Sun Jiaqi's complaints reach Director Lu, who learns that Qu Yufan is developing a project related to emergency services. He asks Qi Ji to discuss it with Qu Yufan. Coincidentally, Qu Yufan invites Qi Ji to dinner at a Western restaurant, and Qi Ji asks Sun Jiaqi to join them. Qu Yufan waits, but Qi Ji is delayed at work. The Western restaurant closes early, so they decide to go to a Korean BBQ place instead. Zhang Chi, Xu Chengyuan, and Zheng Bo are also at the same restaurant. Zhang Chi tries to avoid Qi Ji, but she spots him. After dinner, Xu Chengyuan offers to ride with Qu Yufan. Zheng Bo gives Sun Jiaqi ride on his new motorcycle, and they have a great time talking on a bridge, finding they have a lot in common.
Zhang Chi drives Qi Ji home, where her parents are waiting. Qi Xuejun pulls Zhang Chi inside and again pressures Qi Ji to quit her job the next day. He'd rather support her financially than see her continue as an emergency doctor. Qi Ji argues with him, and Zhang Chi steps in, promising to protect Qi Ji. Qi Xuejun is unconvinced, suspecting Zhang Chi has romantic intentions towards Qi Ji. Zhang Chi denies it, claiming he only sees Qi Ji as a colleague he respects. Pressed by Qi Xuejun to list five of Qi Ji's good qualities, Zhang Chi struggles, coming up with only four, including things like "she eats a lot" and "she's strong," which are not very convincing. Qi Ji finally manages to get her father to leave.
Qi Ji believes Zhang Chi told Xu Chengyuan about her whereabouts, which he admits to, revealing he thinks Xu Chengyuan likes Qi Ji. Qi Ji brushes it off, saying colleagues often joke around like that. She also mentions she wouldn't want to date another emergency doctor because their schedules would make a relationship impossible. This puts a damper on Zhang Chi's budding feelings for Qi Ji.
Later, a "Violent Man," who had previously stabbed himself in the leg, calls 120 after a dispute with his upstairs neighbor. Qi Ji and Zhang Chi respond, recognizing him. The man demands to go to the hospital and threatens them with an empty sleeping pill bottle. Zhang Chi rushes to protect Qi Ji, who eventually agrees to take him to the hospital.
Chen Xue's team has a grueling morning, handling eleven emergency calls. Exhausted, Chen Xue is reprimanded by Director Lu for not adequately addressing a patient's family's questions, leading to a complaint. Director Lu holds a meeting, highlighting Chen Xue's mistake and asking Xu Chengyuan to share his experience in communicating with patients. Secretary Liu arrives and asks Zhang Chi to share his thoughts, prompting him to recount two cases from his early days on the job.
