Spoiler Alert

After comforting Xie Xuechen, Mu Xuanling leaves and encounters Nan Xuyue standing nearby. She asks him why he didn't offer Xie Xuechen any solace. Nan Xuyue replies that when his own father died, Xie Xuechen also kept his distance. He claims they understand each other, but Mu Xuanling reminds him that he, too, has lost a father. She's heard his father was killed by the Spirit Clan and asks if he ever sought revenge. Nan Xuyue states that the guilty are dead, and his vengeance has been fulfilled. He then pointedly asks if Mu Xuanling knew Xie Xuechen previously, her silence confirming his suspicion. He observes that her gaze towards Xie Xuechen is more than just fondness, remarking that "the onlooker sees most of the game."

Nan Xuyue questions why Mu Xuanling hasn't told Xie Xuechen about their past. She admits she initially intended to, but decided against it, feeling he already carries enough burdens, and their first meeting wasn't exactly a happy one. A flashback reveals that Xie Xuechen once died saving her. She believes it's enough that she remembers his kindness. Nan Xuyue then asks if she remembers him. Her blank expression gives her away. He reminds her of their first encounter, recalling the golden patterns on her face and the distinctive bells on her ankles.

He reminisces that everyone pitied him back then, except for Mu Xuanling, who treated him like a normal person. She realizes he was "that young master." He playfully asks if her past offer of giving him "a little bit of affection" still stands. Mu Xuanling is taken aback, but he assures her he's joking. She retorts that he's surrounded by admirers now and doesn't need her affection. He smiles and offers to escort her home.

After his father's funeral, Xie Xuechen confronts Elder Yu, stating they have an unfinished chess game. Elder Yu questions why he wants to finish it after so long, asking if there's a wager involved. Xie Xuechen says that if he wins, Elder Yu must reveal the identity of the mysterious "Xiu Xian" Pavilion Master. Elder Yu is shocked that Xie Xuechen knows about this. When Elder Yu's subordinates attempt to intervene, Xie Xuechen easily defeats them, revealing that his powers have been restored. He demands to know why Elder Yu sided with the Pavilion Master of the Xiuxian Pavilion. Elder Yu claims it was out of fear, citing the Master's immense power. Xie Xuechen scoffs at the excuse of mere fear, pointing out that death holds little meaning for someone like Xie Xuechen.

Elder Yu argues that for them, survival is paramount to achieving anything. Xie Xuechen presses him for the Pavilion Master of the Xiuxian Pavilion's location, but Elder Yu claims ignorance, stating they only communicate through letters. Xie Xuechen then asks who killed his father. Elder Yu admits to removing the guards from his father's door but denies further involvement. Ultimately, Xie Xuechen kills Elder Yu. Mu Xuanling is surprised he would kill a human. Xie Xuechen asserts he judges based on right and wrong, regardless of whether someone is human or spirit. He reveals that he brought Mu Xuanling to Yongxue City to change people's perceptions of the Spirit Clan.

Mu Xuanling is less than thrilled to discover her stay in Yongxue City involves daily lessons. After class, Elder Cang informs her it's her turn to clean. Her duties lead her to Xie Xuechen's courtyard, where she notices a Xuanling tree, a species that only grows in the Dark Territory. Xie Xuechen explains it's been there for a long time. Believing Mu Xuanling should have her own place there, he takes her to select a sword, which she names "Di Yi Jian" (First Sword). Meanwhile, Sang Qi emerges from seclusion and instructs Yu Ying and Zhan Ying to inform the Pavilion Master of the Xiuxian Pavilion that their priority is to ascertain whether Xie Xuechen's powers have truly been restored. He has other matters to attend to.
