Plot Synopsis
"Under the Moonlight" is a 36-episode historical mystery/romance drama set in Ming Dynasty China. It first aired in China on January 14, 2025, and can be streamed on YOUKU.
The story centers around Luo Shu, a clever and resourceful young woman who, after her family's downfall, finds herself in a low social class. Nicknamed "Jin Nang" for her insightful nature, Luo Shu seeks to change her fate. She volunteers to assist the newly appointed county magistrate, Han Muzhi, in solving a major crime. Her success earns her a temporaryposition as a constable in the county office.
While working at the county office, Luo Shu encounters Qi Menglin, a naive but good-hearted young nobleman with dreams of adventure. Together, Luo Shu and Qi Menglin team upto solve a series of bizarre and intriguing cases, many of which involve wronged women. The cases include mysteries like the "Incense Hall Child-Giving Case," the "Headless Woman Case," the "Fen River Naked Corpse Case," and the "Winery Murder Case." Luo Shu and Qi Menglin are dedicated to finding justice for the victims. Theirpartnershipblossoms into romance as they work together.
However, their investigations lead them into deeper conspiracies and dangers. One storyline involves the Qi family being framed by the corrupt official Liu and his associate Qin Yi. Theprotagonists face numerous challenges in gathering evidence and exposing the truth.
Ultimately, Luo Shu confronts the villainous Qin Yi to avenge her family, achieving her long-sought revenge. Despite uncovering the truth behind a major corruption scandal in Shanxi, the victory is bittersweet. The Qi family is ruined and exiled, and both Qi Menglin and Han Muzhi suffer significant setbacks. Luo Shu chooses to accompany Qi Menglin into exile.
