Qian Jiayue is a 15-year-old who embodies the "good girl" archetype, but she's yearning for something more than a predictable life. After earning a spot at a prestigious city high school, Jiayue finds herself navigating a new world of academic pressures. Her studious and kind nature is tested. Adding to the typical high school drama, her attempt to confess her feelings to her longtime crush, Xiao Han (played by Li Yun Rui), doesn't go as planned.
As Jiayue navigates adolescence, she learns valuable lessons about love, both giving and receiving, through her friendships. Her journey is a mix of sweet, secret crushes and the anxieties that come with growing up. She also becomes friends with Chen Mo.
Ni Hongjie as Chen Xiu'e
Chen Xiu'e is the stylish and resourceful mother of Qian Jiayue. She works as a salesclerk, known for her fashionable sense and ability to navigate any social situation. As a former "educated youth" sent to the countryside during the Cultural Revolution, Xiu'e's return to the city led to a prolonged absence from her daughter's life. This has created a rift between them, a strained mother-daughter relationship marked by distance and unspoken feelings.
However, the family is drawn back together when Xiu'e's mother (Jiayue's grandmother) passes away. This event forces Xiu'e, Jiayue, and Jiayue's grandmother to confront their complex emotional ties, ultimately leading to a resolution of the generational tensions within the family. Xiu'e's character represents the challenges faced by many women of her generation, balancing personal history with the demands of motherhood and a changing society.
Yang Haoyu as Zhang Qiming
Zhang Qiming is a "small business owner" and the father of Mao Tou. He is portrayed as a man who is learning to connect with his mischievous and trouble-making son. The show follows his journey of growth as a father. After a series of ups and downs, he rebuilds his family life by marrying Guan Aiping, becoming part of a blended family. He provides some of the more touching moments in the show.
