Spoiler Alert
As evening falls, Zhang Qiming makes a special trip to Xiao Han's home, bringing a free-range chicken with him. He plans to make chicken soup for Guan Aiping, who's been feeling under the weather. Qian Jiayue's mom is also at Xiao Han's house, and upon hearing about Ai Ping's illness, she rushes over to help with dinner, hoping to give her friend a break. Little does she know, she's about to stumble upon a secret.
Fast forward to New Year's Eve, and Ka Men is buzzing with excitement. She's heard a rumor that confessing your love on "New Year's Eve (of the Millennium)" guarantees your wish will come true. Determined to help Qian Jiayue, Ka Men ropes her, along with Mao Tou, Xiao Han, and Zhang Mo, into a scheme to sell inflatable hammers on the Bund.
Despite Ka Men's meticulous planning, things don't go quite as expected. When Xiao Han finally arrives, Mao Tou beats everyone to the punch, asking to be in a group with Qian Jiayue, leaving her no choice. Zhang Mo and Xiao Han end up paired together, and the group splits up to sell their balloons. Qian Jiayue is disappointed, but Ka Men remains enthusiastic, successfully selling several balloons that night.
Xiao Han and Zhang Mo also have a great time working together. When Zhang Mo expresses her excitement for the fireworks, Xiao Han trades a flashing headband for two sparklers. They share a joyful moment, holding the sparklers and clearly enjoying each other's company. Meanwhile, the moms – Qian Jiayue's, Xiao Han's, Zhang Mo's, and Ka Men's – have a little get-together of their own, playing cards, chatting, and generally enjoying the camaraderie of their own friend group. Zhang Qiming later picks up Xiao Han's mom from work, followed by Qian Jiayue's dad picking up her mom, and finally, Zhang Mo's father returning home early from a business trip. Everyone seems to be feeling the love.
As the much-anticipated millennium fireworks begin, crowds gather at the Bund to watch. Ka Men is interviewed by a TV reporter, taking the opportunity to express her New Year's wishes and her love for singer Jeff Chang. Zhang Mo and Xiao Han stand together, their eyes sparkling as they watch the dazzling display. Xiao Han, in particular, seems happier than ever before.
Amidst the chaos of the crowd, Qian Jiayue gets separated from Ka Men. She vaguely hears someone calling her name and turns to see Mao Tou, who smiles, waves, and wishes her a "Happy New Year." Qian Jiayue, distracted by her plan to confess to Xiao Han, barely registers his words.
Later, Xiao Han walks Chen Mo home. Ka Men, taking out the trash, witnesses their cheerful interaction and notices Xiao Han's lingering gazes and the spring in his step as he returns home. Ka Men is distraught – she's been trying to create opportunities for Qian Jiayue, but it seems she's inadvertently helped Chen Mo instead. She spends a restless night, unsure how to break the news to Qian Jiayue.
The next day, Ka Men and Chen Mo go out to buy popsicles. Ka Men nervously tells a story about two girls and a boy, both of whom are her friends. She explains the complicated situation, where the boy, who one girl has a crush on, is now with the other girl. Chen Mo advises Ka Men to let things happen naturally and not interfere. Relieved, Ka Men decides to keep her discovery from Qian Jiayue, for now.
Finally, Qian Jiayue's article is published in the school magazine. Her mother is overjoyed, buying multiple copies to share with the neighbors, beaming with pride as everyone praises her daughter's accomplishment.
