Reopen My Journals: Episode 15

Spoiler Alert

The episode opens with a family dinner centered around Jiali's education. Chen Xiu'e is adamant that Jiali continues her schooling, even to the point of upsetting her sister-in-law. Seeing that Qian Lin is also getting annoyed, Qian Kang quickly steps in to smooth things over. He raises a toast to everyone, and then publicly announces that he will cover all of Jiali's high school expenses for the next three years. He specifically asks for Chen Xiu'e's agreement, and she readily accepts, saying she'll follow his lead. With someone else footing the bill, Jiali's parents can't object, and Jiali is overjoyed that she can continue her studies.

On New Year's Eve, Mao Tou anxiously awaits a call from Qian Jiayue. However, at Jiayue's uncle and aunt's place in Jiangxi, they are constantly hogging the phone. Mao Tou is so eager that he even mistakes the phone ringing on the Spring Festival Gala TV show for the real thing. When the phone finally does ring, it's for Popo (Grandma), who then proceeds to have a lengthy conversation.

Qian Jiayue tries repeatedly to call, first encountering Mao Tou's line busy, and then finding Xiao Han and Chen Mo engaged in a long phone conversation. Finally, she gets through to Mao Tou, who immediately wishes her a Happy New Year. After a brief exchange, Jiayue asks to speak to Popo. Mao Tou is visibly disappointed. Besides Mao Tou, Chang Wuji also remembers to send New Year's greetings to Jiayue. He had memorized her number from a phone book she once showed him, and after a few tries (one number was uncertain), he finally reaches her. They happily exchange New Year's wishes. It's also revealed that Mao Tou has been secretly chatting with Jiayue online under an alias, and they've become quite close through their online conversations.

Qian Jiayue's father grants her request, and she will finally be able to return home on the sixth day of the New Year. Chen Mo and Xiao Han had a very long phone call on New Year's Eve, and a romance is clearly blossoming between them. Chen Mo even promises a special gift for Xiao Han's birthday. Later, when Xiao Han's birthday arrives, Chen Mo goes to Jiayue's house to borrow some tape, and, following Jiayue's instructions, Popo prepares two dishes. Chen Mo goes into Jiayue's room and discovers Jiayue's secret: she has a crush on Xiao Han. Chen Mo realizes she completely misunderstood the situation, thinking that the "top student" Ka Men referred to was Chang Wuji.

Chen Mo is thrown into a panic. As a good friend, she feels terrible about unknowingly "stealing" Jiayue's crush. The young Chen Mo believes that taking what someone else loves is wrong, especially now that Jiayue is a close friend. Chen Mo takes the gift back home, feeling unable to interact with Xiao Han at this point. She pretends to be sick and asks Jiayue to deliver her birthday wishes instead.

When Xiao Han hears from Jiayue that Chen Mo is ill, he immediately goes to visit her. He expresses his concern and brings a birthday cake, carefully packaged in a clear box, showing how much he cares. To cool Xiao Han's affections, Chen Mo claims she's not feeling well enough to eat cake and that she didn't prepare a birthday gift, saying her previous phone conversation was just casual talk. This deeply hurts Xiao Han, who is confused by Chen Mo's sudden coldness and suffers a major blow to his self-esteem. He leaves, heartbroken.

On Xiao Han's birthday, Qian Jiayue gives him the three-dimensional starry sky model she's been working on for a long time. Seeing Xiao Han smile makes Jiayue incredibly happy. After the birthday celebration, Mao Tou helps Jiayue move her computer back home. Seeing her still elated, Mao Tou mentions that he plans to take the entrance exam for the No. 2 High School and that he has something to tell her once he gets in.

Chang Wuji wins another memory competition on television, this time against a university student, despite being only fifteen years old. The prize is presented, but Chang Wuji is unimpressed to find it's just a two-bedroom apartment, saying he doesn't need more houses.

Back home, Qian Jiayue and her friends watch Chang Wuji's impressive performance on TV and agree to celebrate with him when he returns.
