Spoiler Alert
Qian Jiayue is determined to snap Mao Tou out of his gaming obsession. He's so confident in his skills that he's declared he'll give up the idea of going pro if Jiayue can find anyone who can beat him in a game. Jiayue recruits several classmates, but Mao Tou defeats them all. Enter Chang Wuji, who overhears Jiayue's desperate search for a gaming master. He yawns, seemingly uninterested, but offers to give it a shot.
As it turns out, Chang Wuji, a gaming newbie, easily defeats Mao Tou. Mao Tou, full of bravado before the match, had even warned Wuji that if he lost, he'd have to stay away from Jiayue! Mao Tou, shocked by his first-round loss, insists on a best-of-three match, the standard for professional gaming. He proceeds to lose all three rounds.
Mao Tou is stunned into silence. After Wuji leaves the internet cafe, Mao Tou chases after him, asking if he really only came to play the game. Wuji admits he couldn't bear to see Jiayue begging people for help. He then delivers some tough love to Mao Tou, pointing out that the chances of becoming a pro gamer are slim (about 0.1%), while the chances of getting into No. 2 High School are much higher (20%). He emphasizes that even with his current skills, Mao Tou is still among the 90% of average players. Wuji's victory, achieved with only a week or two of practice, proves Mao Tou's lack of natural talent for gaming. Wuji then pointedly asks if Mao Tou has ever truly put his heart into studying, questioning how much of his supposed "one month" of effort was genuinely focused.
This hits home for Mao Tou. He returns home to find his father, once again, sick from excessive drinking – a result of the stress of trying to find a way to get Mao Tou into Erzhong. Mao Tou helps his father to bed and then finds a note written on toilet paper, a heartfelt message from his father expressing his love and support, regardless of Mao Tou's grades. This, combined with Wuji's words, sparks a fire in Mao Tou. He finally commits to serious studying.
Zhang Qiming, Mao Tou's father, is overjoyed to see his son's newfound dedication, witnessing him studying late into the night and even falling asleep at his desk. He's so pleased with Mao Tou's self-motivation that he even refuses an offer from Chen Mo's mother to recommend a good tutor, believing that Mao Tou's intrinsic motivation is far more effective than any forced learning.
Meanwhile, at Erzhong High, a basketball tournament is underway. Liu Jianfeng, a student in Chen Mo's class, sprains his ankle. The class is ready to forfeit, but when they learn they're up against Xiao Han's class, Chen Mo rallies the team with the promise of KFC if they win. Fueled by this incentive, Chen Mo's class surprisingly defeats Xiao Han's team. During the game, Xiao Han gets hit in the nose with the ball and starts bleeding. The winning team celebrates, while Xiao Han leaves, dejected. Chen Mo, feeling a pang of sympathy, secretly writes an apology on a paper airplane and throws it onto Xiao Han's desk. Xiao Han receives the message, and the tension between them magically dissipates.
Ka Men has recently been helping Chang Wuji to verify whether it is a single love or three flowers. Chang Wuji gave Qian Jiayue a piece of chocolate. After seeing Qian Jiayue's awkward expression, he immediately announced that he had found the answer. He liked to go to school with the three girls.
Finally, Mao Tou's hard work pays off, and he gets into Erzhong High. He had secretly vowed to confess his feelings to Jiayue if he succeeded. However, on the day he's celebrating his acceptance, he sees Jiayue engrossed in a Jin Yong novel. In the story, a male character learns that the girl he secretly loves is engaged, and he chooses to bury his feelings. Jiayue explains to Mao Tou that the character chose silence to preserve their time together, fearing rejection would ruin their friendship. Inspired by this, Mao Tou decides to keep his own feelings hidden, valuing his friendship with Jiayue above all else.
