In Episode 7 of "Reopen My Journals," the drama continues to unfold for the families in this Shanghai-set story. The episode opens with Qian Jiayue getting a late-night visit from Xiao Han. He's there to apologize for his earlier outburst, admitting he lost control of his emotions. This apology brings Jiayue a sense of relief.
Things get complicated when Xiao Han's mom returns home, followed by Mao Tou's dad. He's all smiles, greeting Xiao Han and mentioning he bought new sneakers for both Mao Tou and him. He even suggests they wear them for the upcoming "Five Good Families" competition. However, Xiao Han shuts this down immediately, declaring he won't participate. The atmosphere becomes tense. Mao Tou whispers to his dad, explaining that Xiao Han isn't accepting of their blended family.
After Mao Tou's dad leaves, Xiao Han gets serious with his mom. He insists he can provide for her and that they don't need anyone's help. His mom, recognizing his rebellious phase, simply smiles and retreats to her room.
The next day, Mao Tou's dad waits for Xiao Han's mom outside her workplace. He's clearly hurt by Xiao Han's rejection but remains determined to win him over, believing that time and kindness will eventually prevail.
The day of the "Five Good Families" competition arrives. Ka Men's family and Xiao Han's family are no-shows. Only Qian Jiayue's parents participate, giving it their all and winning first place. However, their excitement turns to disappointment when they discover the prize, advertised as a trip to "Xin Ma Tai" (Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand), is actually a tour of three local, less-than-glamorous destinations. Jiayue's mom suspects that Zhang Qiming rigged the competition to favor Xiao Han's mom.
Speaking of Zhang Qiming, he informs Xiao Han's mom that he's going on a business trip to Hangzhou. He acknowledges the challenges of blending their families, especially considering the children's feelings, but he's optimistic, hinting at a plan to win Xiao Han over. He urges her not to give up.
Meanwhile, Mao Tou gets into another fight at school. The teacher demands he call his parents, but Mao Tou, as usual, turns to Qian Jiayue for help. Jiayue covers for him, explaining to the teacher that Mao Tou's dad is away on business and promising to keep a close eye on him.
Back at Xiao Han's place, a new washing machine, purchased by Zhang Qiming, is delivered. Xiao Han is resistant, telling the delivery guys to take it back. When his mom arrives, he shows her the washing machine, insisting he can afford to buy a new one and will return this one.
Later that night, Mao Tou's dad comes home after a night of heavy drinking. Mao Tou helps his father, who is visibly distressed, lamenting that many people look down on him. He's especially saddened by Mao Tou's mother's departure for Japan, from which she never returned. Mao Tou, seeing his father's worn face, recognizes the hardships he's endured over the years.
The episode ends with a classroom mystery. The class's lunch money disappears during a break. As the class monitor, Qian Jiayue feels responsible. Zhang Mo points a finger at Liu Jianfeng, who was seen returning to the classroom during the break. The teacher addresses the class, emphasizing the importance of honesty and urging the thief to come forward.
