Perfect Match: Episode 36

Spoiler Alert

In this episode, the wicked Cui Weizhi's schemes finally unravel. He tries to deceive the Emperor by presenting six beautiful women as "fairies" from Penglai Island, claiming they're there to pray for rain. However, Consort Yang, returning from a Taoist temple, exposes Cui Weizhi's cruelty and corruption to the Emperor. The Emperor, furious, summons his advisors.

Meanwhile, Zhe Cong, Yang Xian, and Le Shan anxiously await news. Shen Huizhao is also summoned to the palace, ready to add fuel to the fire against Prime Minister Cui. Yang Xian, in a calculated move, allows Chen Xiaogu to escape, with Le Shan discovering that Yang Xian had already arranged a secret exit for her.

Zhe Cong informs the Emperor about Cui Weizhi withholding military supplies. Normally, the Lifu Road Military Affairs Department handles provisions for Fuzhou, but since Cui Weizhi took over, nothing has been delivered. Cui Weizhi tries to defend himself, claiming his family's control over Fuzhou is like that of a feudal lord and that the accusations of withholding supplies are lies spread by his enemies.

But his defense crumbles when Shen Huizhao presents evidence. Shen Huizhao, on a secret mission to investigate the murder of Yuan Qing of Bingzhou, found a blood-written letter by the deceased. The letter, never delivered to the Emperor, reveals that the Cui family has been embezzling military funds for years. The Zhe family has been using their own money, even selling assets, to support the troops, leaving them deeply in debt. The letter also details the Cui family's abuses, including oppressing tribal groups and abducting women, causing unrest in Fuzhou. With Shen Huizhao's evidence, the Emperor is enraged and immediately punishes Cui Weizhi.

In a parallel storyline, Chen Xiaogu rushes back to the Jiang household and finds a piece of gold. But her joy is short-lived. She hides as Jiang Chaozong brings Tao Niangzi home, boasting about his hidden gold and his plan to leave the capital with Tao Niangzi, abandoning Chen Xiaogu.

Overcome with rage, Chen Xiaogu attacks Jiang Chaozong with a vase. Tao Niangzi flees. Jiang Chaozong, regaining consciousness, strangles Chen Xiaogu and dumps her body in the river, believing he's committed the perfect crime.

However, Jiang Chaozong's nightmare begins when he sees Chen Xiaogu, pale and ghostly, sitting on his bed. He flees in terror. This is all part of Yang Xian's plan. He rescued Chen Xiaogu and, considering her a minor accomplice, spares her life, ordering her to work as a servant on a boat for three years before regaining her freedom. Yang Xian explains that he wants to live a peaceful life with Le Shan and accumulate good karma, avoiding evil deeds. He then sneaks into Le Shan's room and confesses his love, deeply moving her.

Meanwhile, Zhe Cong's mother apologizes to Lady Li, and the two mothers reconcile, deciding to unite their families through marriage. Le Shan and Qiong'nu eavesdrop as Zhe Cong happily agrees to the match, though Qiong'nu is secretly troubled.

In a twist of fate, Jiang Chaozong, thinking he's escaped, falls into a hunting trap and dies, facing the consequences of his actions.

At the Li household, preparations are underway for Qiong'nu and Zhe Cong's wedding. Qiong'nu encounters Liang Junqing, who once humiliated her. Zhe Cong promptly beats him up. Le Shan is pleased, but Yang Xian, witnessing their closeness, mistakenly believes they're in love and leaves heartbroken. Qiong'nu cries in her room, but Zhe Cong expresses his feelings outside her door, reassuring her, and they embrace.

With all the sisters finding happiness, they tease Le Shan about her feelings for Yang Xian. Le Shan calls on everyone to help her vent her frustrations. The Li family's sons-in-law then kidnap Yang Xian, parade him through the city in a bridal sedan chair, and bring him to the Li household as Le Shan's groom. Yang Xian is overjoyed, but Le Shan plays another trick, causing him to fall and kneel before Lady Li, making everyone laugh.

On Lady Li's birthday, the entire family gathers to celebrate. They present her with birthday peaches, and Lady Li, moved to tears, replaces the "Si Fu Zhai" (Four Fortune Tea Shop) sign with "Liu Fu Zhai" (Six Fortune Tea Shop), symbolizing their expanded family. Everyone reminisces, filled with emotion.
