A'Lai is a cool-headed police officer working in the Chinese Concession during the early years of the Republic of China. While outwardly calm, A'Lai is deeply loyal and values his relationships. He's a dedicated officer, but his world gets turned upside down when he's targeted by a criminal gang. Saved from certain death by a mysterious woman named Lu Na, A'Lai finds himself on a quest that blends his professional life with the fantastical.

After Lu Na falls into a coma due to her injuries, A'Lai discovers a series of comic books in her possession. In an attempt to wake her, he begins reading the stories aloud, only to discover that they are strangely connected to the cases he's investigating. These comics not only provide clues but also seem to predict events in his life.

As A'Lai solves crimes and rises through the ranks, earning both promotions and a higher salary, he also attracts the attention of dangerous enemies. He is forced to confront not only the criminals he pursues but also the growing threat from those who want to see him fail. Through his connection with Lu Na and his work, A'Lai rediscovers his original passion and purpose for becoming a police officer.

Lu Na is a mysterious and multi-talented painter. By day, she's a sophisticated socialite in the French Concession. By night, she transforms into a skilled detective. Equally adept at painting and martial arts, she's a force to be reckoned with.

Due to a time-travel accident, Lu Na arrives from 1946 to 1926. She is severely injured and falls into a coma while saving A'Lai (played by Wang Anyu). When she awakens, a mutual affection develops between them. Using her abilities, and the help of comic books that she brought, she assists A'Lai in solving a series of mysterious crimes.

This delusion gets him into some seriously awkward situations, including spying on his crush, Mi Xue'er (played by Celina Harto). While undergoing therapy, Yuan San begins to confront his inner fears. He also stumbles upon a dark secret connected to the fourth floor of a building, hinting at possible criminal activity. Although his actions are often bizarre and comical, Yuan San's journey of self-discovery adds layers of fantasy and suspense to the series. He's a complex character whose eccentricities mask a deeper struggle with reality and a surprising connection to the show's central mysteries.

A'Feng is the kind of guy who's undeniably ordinary, yet extraordinarily unlucky. It's like he's a magnet for misfortune.  In his school days, a simple prank resulted in accidentally hitting the principal. As an adult, his hard work literally goes down the drain when his meticulously crafted designs are ruined by water damage. And just when he's about to propose, he's attacked by thugs and left fighting for his life.

But A'Feng has a secret weapon: the ability to travel back in time to key moments in his life. He retains his memories of the present, giving him a chance to change things. During his crucial college entrance exam year (at age 17), he chooses to save a puppy, sacrificing his chance to take the test on time. After graduation, he puts his own dreams on hold, forgoing a move to a new city with his girlfriend to support a friend going through a bad breakup. Even when facing deliberate sabotage from a competitive female colleague, A'Feng remains kind and resilient.

His bad luck streak culminates in being wrongly imprisoned on the very night he planned to propose.  Desperate and seemingly defeated, he's eventually cleared of the charges thanks to the help of A'Lai. Through all the trials and tribulations, A'Feng's inherent goodness and loyalty to his friends shine through, making him a character you can't help but root for. He is a supporting character in the series.

Li Li is a passionate, if somewhat inept, lover of all things cake. While her baking skills leave much to be desired (she was even asked to leave her baking class!), her devotion to the legendary pastry chef Bai Lang and his signature creations fuels her relentless pursuit of the perfect dessert.

A twist of fate sends Li Li on an unexpected journey back in time, where she encounters a younger version of her idol, Bai Lang. Together, they create the sensational Creamy Strawberry Cloud Cake, a dessert that takes the culinary world by storm and launches Bai Lang's pastry shop to fame. Li Li's enthusiasm, despite her baking mishaps, combined with her knowledge of the future, makes her a key part in Bai Lang's success story.

Bai Lang is a handsome and cheerful pastry chef with big dreams and a "go-getter" attitude. He runs his own cake shop, but unfortunately, his creations aren't exactly a hit with customers. In fact, his shop is on the verge of closing down due to the poor taste of his cakes. His luck begins to change when he meets Li Li, an enthusiastic young woman who shows a genuine appreciation for his baking. She encourages Bai Lang and gives him a glimpse into the future, telling him that his strawberry cream cake will become incredibly popular.

Mark is a hard-working food delivery driver for a local restaurant. He's constantly struggling to make ends meet and is often harassed by his landlord for late rent. He's a good-natured guy, but his life is a series of unfortunate events.

One day, while delivering food, he tries to intervene when a wealthy, spoiled young man, Jiang Yuan, is wasting food. This act of conscience backfires, and Jiang Yuan starts playing cruel pranks on him.

Mark's troubles escalate when the restaurant starts receiving orders from the creepy, abandoned St. Mary's Hospital. He has several frightening experiences delivering these orders and is even wrongly accused by his boss of stealing food. It turns out, the so-called "ghostly" incidents at the hospital are an elaborate revenge plot orchestrated by Mark's boss and landlord against Jiang Yuan.

Zidan is in a relationship with Zhang Baobao, a woman who endured an abusive childhood and later fell into a life on the streets. Zidan took her in and has encouraged her creative pursuits. He is a complex character. Because of his personality, he makes many self-serving decisions.

A'Ming is a supporting character in Back for You. He is a young, aspiring doctor, full of dreams of helping others. However, he harbors a significant obstacle: he has a severe case of hemophobia (fear of blood). This phobia proves to be a major challenge to his medical career, most notably during an internship where he faints in the operating room due to the sight of blood.

Determined to overcome his condition, A'Ming tries various, somewhat unconventional, methods. He attempts to desensitize himself by consuming pig's blood and drinking red-colored beverages, hoping to build a tolerance. Unfortunately, these attempts prove unsuccessful, leaving A'Ming to grapple with the reality that his dream career might be out of reach because of his debilitating phobia.
