The episode opens with a fierce thunderstorm raging outside, causing the collapse of Liu Meixin's shed used for storing her special "eight-treasure" vegetables. Her six daughters and their husbands rush to her aid. Showing incredible teamwork, they manage to build a brand-new shed in just half a day, deeply pleasing Liu Meixin. The family gathers for a heartwarming meal, sharing their thoughts on what "home" means to them. They agree that home represents security, unity, and the fulfillment of He Changsheng's (the deceased father) wish for a prosperous family.
Meanwhile, He Jiali brings eggs to her sister, He Jiawen, and inquires about a job for their other sister. He Jiawen hasn't received confirmation yet. Jiali refuses to accept payment for the eggs, understanding that Jiawen's family isn't wealthy. Elsewhere, Liu Xiaoling confronts her husband, Tang Zhenmin, after finding out he's been secretly dancing again. Furious, she kicks him out of the house.
Later that night, Xiaoling vents to her third sister, He Jiayi, about Zhenmin's lack of ambition. Xiaoling expresses her desire to join her brother-in-law in business, but Jiayi advises caution. Jiayi reminds Xiaoling that she has a secure, "iron rice bowl" job (a term for a guaranteed government position) because she took over her father's position. Jiayi promises to look into business opportunities but urges Xiaoling not to quit her job prematurely, ensuring stability for both.
Tragedy strikes when Yan Hongyu wakes up to find blood on the bed. He frantically searches for his wife, He Jiaxi, and finds her pale and weak in the bathroom. Jiaxi is rushed to the hospital. The He sisters and Hongyu wait anxiously, only to be informed by the doctor that while Jiaxi is safe, she has lost the baby.
Due to Jiaxi's miscarriage and weakened state, she needs constant care. Hongyu asks his mother, Wang Huaimin, for help, but Huaimin refuses, claiming she's too busy with work and blaming Jiaxi for the miscarriage. Jiaxi decides to return to her mother's home for recovery. Liu Meixin vows to take good care of her daughter. He Jiali tells Hongyu to go home and suggests that he and Jiaxi should live separately from his mother to avoid further conflict.
After Jiaxi recovers, Hongyu comes to pick her up, only to find Huaimin engrossed in a mahjong game. Huaimin openly criticizes Jiaxi, complaining about her using too much toilet paper and demanding she do housework. During dinner, Huaimin continues her tirade, accusing Jiaxi of eating too much and laying down a list of rules.
Chen Weiguo's company is about to be restructured, meaning he'll have to relocate to Sichuan, separating him from He Jiawen. Jiawen, for the sake of her husband's career, reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, He Xiangdong's constant fighting at school infuriates He Jiali, who scolds him at home. Zhang Jianguo, Jiali's husband, threatens to use a belt, but Jiali, of course, can't bear to see her son punished. He Jiali is also worried of becoming unemployed. Not long after that, she is laid off, and she is very reluctant to leave.
On the anniversary of their father's death, Liu Meixin takes the family to his grave to pay their respects. The fourth sister is busy, and the fifth sister is absent. Afterward, everyone returns to their respective homes. Soon, it's time for He Xiangdong to join the army. He Jiali watches her son leave on the bus, filled with a bittersweet mix of emotions, feeling like it's all a dream that her child has grown up so quickly.
After being laid off, He Jiali becomes idle and invites a group of friends over to play mahjong. Zhang Jianguo returns home displeased, especially seeing that there's no dinner cooked. He angrily starts preparing a meal in the kitchen. The friends, sensing the tension, quickly leave. Jianguo understands Jiali's difficulty in accepting her job loss but urges her not to give up. He believes that staying at home all day will ruin her mental state.
Seeing Jiali's unhappiness, Jianguo encourages her to try a different path, offering to lend her money to start a vegetable-selling business, her old trade. Jiali refuses his offer and instead borrows 3,000 yuan from He Jiayi and her husband, Ouyang Bao. Ouyang Bao readily agrees to lend the money, but Jiayi insists on a written IOU, which displeases Ouyang Bao. After Jiali leaves, Ouyang Bao expresses his anger at Jiayi's actions, but Jiayi explains that she never intended for her sister to repay the loan.
