Spoiler Alert
In 2009, college senior Ti Yi faces pressure from her mother, who sews her a red dress for a graduation performance. To ease her mother’s worries, Ti Yi lies about job-hunting and asks her roommate Manni for help. Manni drags her to a chaotic party filled with drugs and transactional encounters. In the bathroom, a drunk Gade corners Ti Yi, leaving her shaken.
Meanwhile, Detective Shu He hits dead ends in his investigation into Xun Ge’s mysterious death. Suspecting ties to the decade-old Liao family fire, he theorizes Xun Ge—once a lowly security guard—rose to power by aligning with shadowy figure Tie Xin after the tragedy. Shu He pushes to reopen the cold case, but his partner Liao Siyuan remains tight-lipped.
At Liao Zhibai’s home, Liao Siyuan learns Tie Xin, a former mercenary, vanished after a car crash. Bai Han’s team discovers Xun Ge’s phone linked to frequent calls with Gade, founder of an art training center and alleged puppet of Tie Xin. Posing as students, Liao Siyuan, Ma Luo, and Li Zhi visit the center. A tearful teacher catches Liao’s eye before he spots Gade and tails him to a stationery shop.
Gade frames a girl for theft to test Liao Siyuan, who defends her. Confronted, Gade smirks and invites Liao to his mansion. Over video games, Gade claims to see ghosts and mentions a twin brother—a revelation that mirrors Liao’s own supernatural abilities. Though bonding over shared trauma, Liao grows suspicious when Gade dodges questions about Tie Xin.
The tension explodes when Ti Yi courageously reports Gade for sexual assault. Forensic examiner Qi Xia confirms her injuries, prompting a police raid. As officers arrest Gade mid-call with Liao Siyuan, the predator’s parting grin hints at darker machinations. With Gade in custody but Tie Xin still at large, Liao’s hunt for his brother’s killer takes a sinister turn.
