The Embers: Episode 21

Spoiler Alert

In 2009, Lang Sang’s new store is about to open, and Liao Zhibai’s crew debates what gift to give him. Bai Han notices Liao Zhibai behaving strangely, plagued by unexplained chest pains. Meanwhile, Lang Sang prepares alone for the grand opening until Ti Yi—bruised and frantic—bursts in, begging for help.

Shu He uncovers a bombshell: Ti Yi, the victim in a decade-old murder case, had traces of AH7 in her system. Liao Siyuan connects this to the imposter Ti Yi’s recent reappearance, suspecting a conspiracy to reopen the cold case. Shu He reveals his own dark history: he was falsely accused by Bai Han’s group of sabotaging Lang Sang’s exam years ago, a misunderstanding later cleared by Liao Zhibai. But Shu He still questions Lang Sang’s death, theorizing someone else was at the crime scene.

As the duo digs deeper, they link Gade to the deadly Liao family fire from 10 years prior. Determined to learn why Liao Zhibai turned to drugs, they target Su Taipu. The scene shifts to Su Taipu, a grieving father making offerings to his late wife while being tailed by Liao Siyuan. Confronted on a rooftop, Su Taipu cracks under pressure when Liao Siyuan exposes his role in framing Gade with falsified assault evidence. The truth spills: Ti Yi mutilated herself to fuel the revenge plot, while Su Taipu impersonated Gade at the crime scene—a plan foiled by Liao Siyuan’s alibi evidence.

Su Taipu’s motives unravel further. He admits to drugging Liao Zhibai’s group years ago under orders from corrupt higher-ups, fracturing their brotherhood. Worse, he reveals Gade’s horrific past—the real Ti Yi was assaulted by Gade and Xun Ge, a security guard who betrayed her. Liao Siyuan reels, realizing his testimony inadvertently set Gade free.

The episode crescendos as hair analysis identifies Su Taipu, but Chief Reynolds forces Shu He to release Gade due to lack of evidence. Gade smugly declares "justice never sleeps" to reporters, while Su Taipu—foreshadowing doom—gives his daughter Xiao Jiu a photo of Liao Zhibai’s circle, calling them her "godfathers." The imposter Ti Yi, now wearing her daughter’s lipstick, ominously vows to finish her mission.

The Verdict: Lies collapse, alliances shatter, and a predator walks free—but the flames of vengeance are far from extinguished.
