Zhou Yutong as Gu Yunsu
Gu Yunsu is a 28-year-old aspiring screenwriter living in the city. She's at a crossroads in her life, having recently experienced both a breakup and the loss of her job. Seeking a fresh start and a place to regroup, she returns home to live with her mother, Wu Limei. However, her plans for a quiet retreat are turned upside down when she discovers that her almost fifty-year-old mother is pregnant after a quick marriage.
Forced to become her mother's caregiver, Yunsu finds herself living with a family she barely knows, including a stepfather she is not familiar with and a stepbrother she has no blood relation with. This leads to a series of comical and heartwarming situations. During this time, she also develops a relationship with her mother's attending physician, Xu Wenbin, starting as rivals but eventually becoming close companions.
Wu Yue as Wu Limei
Wu Limei is a rebellious and courageous mother in her late 40s, part of the post-70s generation in China. She's recently remarried and, to everyone's surprise, finds herself pregnant again at an older age. Limei is fiercely independent and has a strong personality, which often leads to clashes with her daughter, Gu Yunsu (played by Zhou Yutong), who has recently returned home. Over a 180-day period, their relationship evolves from constant bickering to a deeper understanding, as they navigate the challenges of Limei's unexpected pregnancy and rebuild their mother-daughter bond. She is a protective mother.
Liu Chang as Xu Wenbin
Xu Wenbin is the attending physician for Wu Limei. He encounters Gu Yunsu, Wu Limei's daughter, and their initial interactions are less than friendly. However, as they spend more time together, a connection develops between them. Xu Wenbin and Gu Yunsu's relationship evolves from a bickering dynamic to one of warmth and companionship, as they support each other through the various challenges of family and daily life.
Geng Le as Li Jianxiong
Li Jianxiong is the stepfather of Gu Yunsu and the husband of Wu Limei. He is best described as a kind, tolerant, gentle, and resilient man. A pillar of support for Wu Limei, Jianxiong strives to maintain harmony within their blended family. He provides emotional stability for his wife.
He Luoluo as Li Yan
Li Yan is a high school senior in the midst of his rebellious phase, repeating his third year. He is the son of Li Jianxiong. Li Yan is also the stepbrother of Gu Yunsu. While he possesses a sunny disposition, he's generally quiet and reserved. He is going through a period that many American teens can relate to – navigating the pressures of school, family, and finding his own identity.
Chen Minghao as Gu Kangqi
Gu Kangqi is the father of Gu Yunsu and the ex-husband of Wu Limei. He's portrayed as a man with a youthful spirit and a strong competitive streak. After his divorce from Wu Limei, he experiences a complex mix of emotions upon learning of her remarriage and subsequent pregnancy. He is surprised that Wu Limei is pregnant at the age of 48, and initially finds it difficult to accept. He previously waited for Wu Limei to change her mind, and even tricked her into believing their child was no longer alive, only to be extremely happy upon discovering the child was, in fact, still there.
Zhu Yin as Old Lady Zhao
Old Lady Zhao is the kind and understanding matriarch of the family. She is the mother of Wu Limei and the grandmother of Gu Yunsu. Old Lady Zhao acts as a calming presence and mediator, especially between the often-clashing mother-daughter pair of Yunsu and Limei. Her warm personality and reasonable nature bring a sense of stability and comfort to the entire household. She is the glue of the family.
