Spoiler Alert

The series kicks off with Gu Yunsu, who's fresh off a breakup with her boyfriend, Qin Yuxuan. To make matters worse, she discovers she's pregnant. She and Yuxuan head to the hospital for a blood test, and while waiting for the results, they get into a heated argument. Yuxuan is planning a move to Shanghai for work, a decision he made without consulting Yunsu, who has no desire to leave Hangzhou.

As they're arguing, Yunsu is shocked to hear her mother, Wu Limei's name called. It turns out Limei, who is older, is also at the hospital, accompanied by her second husband, Li Jianxiong, and is trying to have a baby. Yunsu, concerned about her mother's health, confronts her, leading to a full-blown mother-daughter argument right in front of the doctor.

The episode then takes us back in time to a company meeting where Yuxuan announces his promotion and transfer to the Shanghai branch. He casually mentions that he's taking Yunsu with him, much to her surprise and anger, as she was completely in the dark. Later, at a company farewell party, a tipsy Yunsu reveals their secret office romance (which was against company policy) to everyone. She's been quietly enduring disrespect from her colleagues, who see her as someone who's only gotten ahead because of her relationship with Yuxuan. Yunsu declares that she's done with this dynamic and is ready to rely on her own merits.

We then get a glimpse into Yunsu's childhood, which explains her strong personality. When she was eight, her mother, Wu Limei, divorced her father, Gu Kangqi. Limei, determined to be independent, left with nothing but her daughter. A dramatic scene unfolds where Limei drags young Yunsu to a KTV, where Kangqi is socializing, to demand he sign the divorce papers. She makes a scene, smashing bottles, and gets the police involved. Yunsu's choice to stay with her mother, despite the chaos, deeply impacts her.

Back in the present, the emotional turmoil leads to a night of intimacy between Yunsu and Yuxuan, resulting in Yunsu's unexpected pregnancy.
