Episode Summary
Gu Yunsu's birthday date with Xu Wenbin is interrupted by his surprise visit from his parents, leading to awkward introductions and Yunsu feeling slighted. A misunderstanding about Wenbin having a child arises. The families meet, secrets about Wenbin's past and ex-wife are revealed, and ultimately, Wenbin confesses his love for Yunsu in front of everyone, gaining their support. After comforting her mother, Wu Limei, it's evening, and Gu Yunsu is encouraged to go on her date with Xu Wenbin. Wu Limei doesn't want to interfere with their plans. Xu Wenbin has prepared a birthday surprise for Yunsu, starting with a romantic "snowfall" effect, which she loves. He has a second, admittedly cliché, surprise planned, but things take a turn when Wenbin's parents and younger brother show up unexpectedly. It turns out Wenbin lied about working at the hospital, and his parents discovered the truth when they brought him dinner.
Wenbin is flustered by this premature meeting between Yunsu and his family. He doesn't reveal Yunsu's true relationship to him, introducing her only as a friend. Yunsu's smile immediately fades, and she leaves after a brief greeting. As she departs, the second surprise – fireworks – begins, but Yunsu misses it. Li Yan, hiding nearby, witnesses the whole scene. Later, Li Yan is waiting in a room for Gu Kangqi, who ends up slipping on a steak Li Yan had placed by the door. Li Yan, seeing Kangqi's embarrassing fall, can't reveal the truth but secretly laughs. He also mistakenly believes that the child with Wenbin's parents is Wenbin's son, thinking Wenbin is hiding this from Yunsu. Li Yan sees this as his chance to break them up.
Back in her room, Yunsu tells Wu Limei what happened. Wu Limei and Li Jianxiong decide to meet with Wenbin's family the next day. It turns out Li Jianxiong and Wenbin's father are old acquaintances. During their meeting, Wenbin's parents learn about Wu Limei's pregnancy, which means they have to cancel their pre-arranged herbal bath. Wenbin's father and Li Jianxiong take the bath together, while Wu Limei and Wenbin's stepmother chat. Wu Limei learns that Wenbin's biological mother passed away, and his current "mother" is his stepmother. They also reveal they don't know the reason for Wenbin's divorce; they were simply informed of it. They mention that Wenbin's ex-wife, Yang Xin, is a very accomplished woman, having studied abroad with Wenbin and worked for a foreign company. She's now a university professor with tenure. Worried about upsetting Yunsu, Wu Limei and Li Jianxiong embellish the story, telling Yunsu that Wenbin's ex-wife is just an ordinary person, not as outstanding as she is.
Wenbin receives a call from the hospital about an emergency surgery. He informs Yunsu, and to prove he's not trying to avoid her, he offers to take her with him. Wu Limei, overhearing, intervenes, saying Yunsu shouldn't interfere with his work. Wu Limei is understanding, recognizing that as a doctor, saving lives is his priority.
Later, the two families have a formal dinner together. Wenbin is on his way back after finishing the surgery. Gu Kangqi suddenly arrives, intending to expose Wenbin's supposed secret child, but it turns out to be a misunderstanding, creating an awkward situation for Wu Limei and the others. When Wenbin arrives, he decides to confess his true feelings in front of both families. He explains that his divorce from Yang Xin was because they simply couldn't live together anymore; their relationship was too calm, and they didn't even argue when they separated. It was only after meeting Yunsu that Wenbin felt alive again, experiencing the joys and sorrows of love. His heartfelt confession moves everyone present, and Gu Kangqi is the first to support their relationship. Only Li Yan is unhappy. Wenbin and Yunsu get some time alone. Before they leave, Yunsu suggests to Wenbin's parents that Li Yan, who is a good student, could tutor Wenbin's younger brother. Li Yan watches them leave, tears welling up in his eyes.
