Her doctor, Liu Wenbin, advises her to seriously consider the implications for her health, implying a possible termination. Li Jianxiong and Gu Yunsu, concerned for Wu Limei's well-being, also urge her to consider ending the pregnancy. Initially, Wu Limei agrees to have an abortion. However, while on the operating table, she has a flashback to Gu Yunsu's birth. This memory triggers a powerful maternal instinct, and she changes her mind, deciding to keep the baby. She explains that after recently losing someone, she can't bear the thought of losing another life.
This decision sparks a heated argument with Gu Yunsu, who expresses her fear of losing her mother, especially given the risks involved. Gu Yunsu feels her mother is being stubborn. The confrontation escalates, with Wu Limei saying hurtful things, accusing Gu Yunsu of not wanting to take care of her and telling her to "get out."
Feeling unwanted, Gu Yunsu decides to move out. However, she's broke. In a move to gain financial independence, she approaches Zhou Zimeng, agreeing to make significant changes to her novel to secure a lucrative deal. She's excited by the potential earnings and starts looking for apartments. Her best friend Jingjing accompanies her, though Jingjing knows Gu Yunsu is primarily acting out of spite against her mother. They find a remote and dilapidated apartment, recording a video to send to Wu Limei, hoping to provoke a reaction. As Jingjing "coaches" her, Gu Yunsu informs Wu Limei that she's about to sign the contract and pay the deposit.
The video works. Wu Limei is panicked. Meanwhile, Li Jianxiong tries to mediate between mother and daughter during a grocery shopping trip. However, Wu Limei breaks down, expressing her frustration and feeling that everyone is blaming her and that she never does anything right. Li Jianxiong comforts her, unsure of what else to do.
Wu Limei learns about Gu Yunsu's impending deal with Zhou Zimeng. After Gu Yunsu leaves, Wu Limei contacts Zhou Zimeng. She expresses her disapproval of the drastic changes being forced upon Gu Yunsu's work, emphasizing the importance of an author's integrity and principles. As a result, Zhou Zimeng backs out of the deal. Gu Yunsu, already at the real estate agency to sign the lease, is forced to abandon her plans and returns home with her suitcase.
However, Gu Yunsu has also reached out to Qin Yuxuan for help in finding producers for her work. While waiting for a response, she takes on the role of caregiver for Wu Limei. Qin Yuxuan eventually finds a producer interested in Gu Yunsu's original work, but also reveals that Wu Limei sabotaged the deal with Zhou Zimeng. This revelation leads to another major clash between mother and daughter. Wu Limei clarifies that she wasn't trying to ruin Gu Yunsu's chances but wanted her to be respected and not compromise her work for money. However, their different perspectives and inability to understand each other fuel the conflict. In a fit of anger, Wu Limei says she regrets having Gu Yunsu, claiming it negatively impacted her life. Gu Yunsu retorts that she never asked to be her daughter.
