Plot Synopsis

Based on thepopular novel "First Frost" by Zhu Yi (竹已),The First Frostis a 2025 Chinese romantic drama that explores themes of second chances, healing frompast trauma, and the complexities of love. The series stars Bai Jingting as Sang Yan and Zhang Ruonan as Wen Yifan.

Wen Yifan, a reporter, unexpectedly encounters her high school classmate Sang Yan at a bar. Years ago, Wen Yifan had rejected Sang Yan, and they haven't spoken since. To avoid awkwardness, theypretend not to know each other. However, fate intervenes when they end upbecoming roommates.

In high school, Wen Yifan and Sang Yan were classmates and had even made apact to attend the same university. However, a series of traumatic events, including the death of her father, her mother's remarriage, and an attempted assault by a relative, left Wen Yifan deeply scarred. She changed her universityplans without telling Sang Yan, breaking theirpromise and their connection.

Years later, their accidental reunion at the bar is just the beginning. Wen Yifan, facing harassment from a neighbor, needs a newplace to live. Simultaneously, Sang Yan's apartment becomes uninhabitable due to a fire next door. Through a twist of fate, they find themselves cohabitating.

Their initially distant relationshipbegins to thaw when Sang Yan reveals to Wen Yifan that she has been sleepwalking, a condition exacerbated by herpast trauma. This shared secret breaks the ice, and Sang Yan's attentive care allows Wen Yifan to slowly open up. She starts to activelypursue him, and Sang Yan, who has harbored feelings for her all this time, eventually confesses his love, traveling across the city to do so.

As their relationshipblossoms, Wen Yifan finally confides in Sang Yan about the reasons behind herpast actions. Deeply moved and understanding, Sang Yan vows toprotect her and helpher overcome the shadows of herpast.
