As the National Day holiday approaches, Duan Jiaxu invites Sang Yan to his hometown of Yihe, but Sang Yan is noncommittal. Meanwhile, outside Yihe University, Wen Yifan has an awkward encounter with her mother, who brings her homemade chili sauce, local specialties, and some money. Zheng Kejia, Wen Yifan's stepsister, emerges from a car, adding to the tension, and the three part on bad terms. Sang Yan observes this from across the street, then turns to leave once Wen Yifan heads back to campus.

Sang Yan is counting down the days to his birthday. Wen Yifan is excited about it, but unsure how to act on her feelings. Her friend, Su Tian, suggests focusing on Sang Yan's hobbies. Discovering he enjoys mobile gaming, Wen Yifan downloads the same game to practice. Mu Chengyun notices, grabs her phone, and adds himself as a friend, offering to help her level up.

Later, during a company meeting, Sang Yan boasts about a girl pursuing him. He admits he likes her too, but since she's making the effort, he's going to enjoy being wooed. The teasing shifts to Su Haoan just as Zhong Siqiao arrives. It's immediately clear there's something between them. Zhong Siqiao announces she's going to visit her grandfather because she's found "Mutou" (meaning "wood").

That evening, Wen Yifan receives an apologetic phone call from her mother, Zhao Yuandong, who wants to visit and cook for her. Later, when Sang Yan gets home, he finds Wen Yifan asleep in his bed. He whispers to her, asking her to be more obvious in her pursuit. He confesses that if she doesn't reach out to him first, he's afraid to risk giving himself to her again.

The next morning, Wen Yifan wakes up disoriented, thinking Sang Yan hasn't returned. She's shocked to find him sleeping on the sofa. Sang Yan teases that she pushed him out of bed, joking that even locking the door wouldn't stop her from "invading" his space. Wen Yifan confronts him, wrapping her arms around his neck and saying that this is what happens when he doesn't lock the door. Sang Yan pulls her closer, asking if she's brave enough now. Startled, Wen Yifan says she's not and quickly escapes.

Zhong Siqiao finds a dog, also named Mutou, at an animal shelter and brings it to her grandfather, who is delighted. He encourages Su Haoan to seize the opportunity with Zhong Siqiao.

With 15 days until Sang Yan's birthday, Wen Yifan starts acting suspiciously, pretending to read a book while hovering near Sang Yan. She mentions she's also playing the same game as him. Sang Yan invites her to play a round, but when she asks his rank, she gets scared and runs off. Before entering her room, she asks Sang Yan to dinner on Friday, which he coolly accepts, despite his internal excitement.

On Friday, Wen Yifan rushes home after work to get ready, even spritzing on the perfume Sang Yan gave her. They head to Spring Garden Restaurant, only to run into Sang Yan's colleagues, including Zheng Kejia, who are also having a gathering there. Their date turns into an awkward company dinner. Zheng Kejia, a new intern, reveals she had planned to pursue Sang Yan but backed off upon realizing his feelings for Wen Yifan. Through Zheng Kejia's words, Wen Yifan finally understands the special treatment she's been receiving from Sang Yan.

Later, Wen Yifan receives news of a tunnel collapse in Beiyu, requiring her to go on an urgent business trip. Sang Yan expresses his hope that she'll return soon, as his birthday is fast approaching. On the way, Zheng Kejia adds Wen Yifan on WeChat, offering to send photos from the dinner. Wen Yifan accepts and receives pictures showing Sang Yan's gaze constantly fixed on her, even though they weren't standing together.
