The episode opens with a flashback to eight years ago. It's a bright, sunny day at Nanwu City's First High School, and a cheerful Wen Yifan is dropped off by her father on his scooter. New to the school, she gets lost and asks the passing Sang Yan for directions. Later, they both arrive late to class and are assigned to sit together in the back row by their teacher, who initially mistakes Wen Yifan for Sang Yan.

Back in the present, Wen Yifan skips a New Year's Eve party with her coworker, Zhong Siqiao, opting to go home alone. She posts on social media, and Zhong Siqiao, who learns that Sang Yan is a big shot at the local bar scene, immediately messages Wen Yifan. Looking at her chat history with Sang Yan, which contains only a single question mark, Wen Yifan is overcome with emotion and moves her bed to block her door, tears silently falling.

The next day, Wen Yifan checks out a potential apartment sublet from her colleague, Wang Linlin. It's a nice place, close to the TV station, and despite the high rent, she decides to take it for safety reasons. Wang Linlin invites Wen Yifan to dinner with her ex-boyfriend, Su Haoan. During the car ride, Su Haoan, an old high school classmate of both Wen Yifan and Sang Yan, excitedly reveals that Wen Yifan was Sang Yan's "White Moonlight" (ideal first love). This wakes up Sang Yan, who's sleeping in the back seat. The atmosphere in the car becomes incredibly awkward, with Wen Yifan and Sang Yan remaining silent.

Su Haoan drives them to Overtime Bar, which he co-owns with Sang Yan and two other high school friends. It's revealed that it's Sang Yan's birthday, a fact Su Haoan blurts out, much to Sang Yan's likely annoyance.

Later, Wen Yifan and Sang Yan have another awkward encounter outside the restroom. She greets him with a polite "long time no see," but Sang Yan sarcastically points out they just saw each other on New Year's Eve. Wen Yifan retorts that she was only staring at him because his fly was down, leaving Sang Yan speechless as she slips into an elevator.

Wen Yifan leaves the gathering early, claiming work obligations. Sang Yan, though he doesn't admit it, follows her and offers her a ride, pretending he's going her way. During the drive, Wen Yifan tries to break the silence by suggesting music and awkwardly asks if it's his birthday. Sang Yan pointedly asks if she forgot, triggering a memory of him giving her a birthday gift in the past and casually mentioning his January 2nd Capricorn birthday.

Back at her old apartment, Wen Yifan is confronted by the man who previously attempted to assault her. He's been released and brings two friends to retaliate. Wen Yifan escapes the apartment complex but is cornered in a dead end. Just in time, Sang Yan arrives, gets Wen Yifan into his car, and fights off the attackers. He leads them away from Wen Yifan, then doubles back to drive her away.

At the police station, Sang Yan chides Wen Yifan for running away from him when he called out to her during the chase. She explains she was outnumbered. Worried about his injuries, Wen Yifan buys medicine and tends to his wounds, a gesture that clearly affects Sang Yan, though he maintains a tough exterior.

Concerned for Wen Yifan's safety, Sang Yan follows her home, helps her pack, and drives her to her new apartment. Back in his car, he finds her old apartment key and goes back to the old place alone. He overhears the three men talking about taking secret photos, and, to ensure they haven't, he confronts and subdues them.
