Winter break has arrived, but the teacher reminds the students, now in their second year of high school, not to slack off. After school, Wen Yifan is admiring the music box Sang Yan gave her, twirling around, when she realizes Sang Yan is quietly following her. He offers her a ride home, claiming it's on his way.

Later, at a group dinner, Xiang Lang makes a show of preparing Wen Yifan's favorite dipping sauce, boasting about their childhood bond, which clearly irritates Sang Yan, who spends the meal scowling. After dinner, the group moves to the "Overtime Bar." While Sang Yan is away, Zhong Siqiao suggests Xiang Lang and Sang Yan should live together, an idea Wen Yifan politely declines. Su Haoan suggests a game of Truth or Dare. In the first round, Su Haoan draws a dare card to kiss someone present. Despite Sang Yan's protests, Su Haoan manages to sneak a quick kiss on him before proudly walking away. When it's Wen Yifan's turn for truth, she lists several of Xiang Lang's good qualities, fueling Sang Yan's jealousy. Xiang Lang expresses his biggest regret: not attending Yihe University with Wen Yifan, as they had originally planned. This triggers a painful memory for Sang Yan, recalling Wen Yifan breaking up with him, saying she had promised to go to Yihe University with someone.

Su Haoan wonders why Wen Yifan didn't go to Nanwu University, a question that also puzzles Zhong Siqiao. Seeing Sang Yan drinking alone, Su Haoan bluntly states that Sang Yan is still in love with Wen Yifan, which Sang Yan denies, throwing an ice cube at him in response. Su Haoan brings up the day college acceptance results came out, taking Sang Yan back to that rainy night. That night, she told him she chose Yihe to get away from him, because she hated how often he sought her out.

Xiang Lang tries to connect with Wen Yifan about her current life, but she seems distant and preoccupied, unwilling to discuss why she changed her university plans. Sang Yan informs Wen Yifan that he won't be coming home that night. After a moment's thought, she simply replies, "Okay."

Flashbacks reveal that during their second year of high school, Sang Yan would wake up extra early every day just to ride the same bus as Wen Yifan, even saving her a seat. Wen Yifan's mother visits her at work, trying to persuade her to come home for the New Year's Eve celebration, emphasizing that her stepsister, Zheng Kejia, has agreed. Wen Yifan remains noncommittal. Sang Yan continues to sleep at the office, avoiding going home. Zhong Siqiao informs Wen Yifan about this, and Wen Yifan says they haven't argued; they're more like strangers under the same roof. Despite not returning home, Sang Yan consistently messages Wen Yifan, telling her to lock the door, to which she always replies with a single "Okay."

Su Haoan gives Zhong Siqiao a ride home, leading to an awkward encounter with her family. A clip of Sang Yan being interviewed goes viral, becoming a meme. Wen Yifan watches it at home, only to be startled by Sang Yan's sudden appearance.

Sang Yan fills the refrigerator with food, claiming he hates waste and telling Wen Yifan to help him clear it out. When Wen Yifan offers to pay him back, he ignores her. She texts him asking for the amount, and he replies "20," saying, "You owe me." It turns out Sang Yan overheard Zhong Siqiao's phone call with Wen Yifan, especially the part where she said, "We're like strangers under the same roof now; we don't talk much."
