In episode 9 of "The First Frost," Sang Yan visits Wen Yifan in Beiyu. While they're reading, Wen Yifan receives a call from her aunt and, noticing the gloomy, rainy weather, suggests they go to the movies. Wen Yifan opts for a horror film, thinking it will help her forget her troubles, but it ends up terrifying Sang Yan.

Later, on the street, Wen Yifan has a frightening encounter with an exhibitionist. Fortunately, Mu Chengyun, a college student who's disguised as a homeless man for life experience, comes to her rescue. Mu Chengyun gives Wen Yifan his autograph before leaving the Police Station. Sang Yan tells Wen Yifan to meet him at the supermarket because he has too many things to carry. While she's waiting, Wen Yifan looks up Mu Chengyun online, and Sang Yan, peeking over her shoulder, jealously asks if she's into "that type."

At the supermarket, they each grab a cart. Wen Yifan asks Sang Yan when he's moving out, mentioning a female friend who could take his place after his three-month stay. Hearing this, Sang Yan immediately ditches his cart, helps Wen Yifan pick out some tissues, and takes over her cart. He also grabs all the items she had previously picked up and put back. At checkout, despite Wen Yifan's attempt to separate their purchases, Sang Yan insists on paying for everything, only letting her carry a pack of tissues. As it's still raining and Wen Yifan left her umbrella in the cart, Sang Yan goes back for it. Mu Chengyun shows up with an umbrella, offering Wen Yifan a ride, but Sang Yan swiftly pushes him aside and leads Wen Yifan away.

Back at home, Wen Yifan, seeing Sang Yan's wet clothes, makes him cold medicine. Sang Yan asks a friend for a horror movie recommendation to help him sleep. Wen Yifan remembers Mu Chengyun, now a rising star in horror films, and realizes he was the young boy in a horror movie they had watched together years ago. They rewatch "See You When You Wake Up," and Sang Yan is still scared, especially when Wen Yifan turns off the lights for atmosphere. Wen Yifan calculates and transfers her share of the grocery expenses to Sang Yan, and the sudden notification sound startles him. Wen Yifan mentions they had seen this movie in Beiyu, but Sang Yan claims he doesn't remember because he was too focused on her at the time.

Wen Yifan pauses on a scary scene and compares it to Mu Chengyun's photo, confirming he's the boy from the movie. Sang Yan asks her to watch with him, and Wen Yifan, realizing he's afraid of ghosts, sits closer. The episode also shows Sang Yan, dressed professionally, going for a job interview, contrasting with the carefree image Wen Yifan previously had of him.

Meanwhile, Su Haoan meets with Zhong Siqiao, expressing his happiness that she considers him a friend. Zhong Siqiao, noticing his dry hands, gives him hand cream. Su Haoan's grandmother then tasks Zhong Siqiao with spying on Su Haoan's grandfather. Zhong Siqiao takes Wen Yifan to a community dance event, where Su Haoan's grandfather is popular among the elderly.

Sang Yan gets hired and will be working with Su Haoan, who's thrilled and immediately invites Zhong Siqiao and Wen Yifan to dinner. During the meal, Su Haoan reflects on his grandparents' relationship. Zhong Siqiao remembers her grandmother's request: to check if his grandfather's new love is trustworthy; if they're genuinely in love, she's willing to accept it. Wen Yifan comments that perhaps only women truly value first loves. Sang Yan adds that first love holds an irreplaceable position.
