Criminal Scene: Episode 13

Spoiler Alert

In Episode 13 of "Criminal Scene," Gu Zhen confronts Bai Zhigang at the hospital, showing him a picture of Jiang Peng. Bai Zhigang claims ignorance, stating that many people worked at the quarry and he can't possibly know everyone. He becomes agitated, lamenting his parents' misfortune of encountering "maniacs." Gu Zhen presses him, asserting that the men with gas cans were specifically targeting Bai's parents. Bai Zhigang adamantly denies any wrongdoing on his parents' part.

Gu Zhen, seeing Bai Zhigang's feigned forgetfulness, brings up Jiang Peng's accident at the quarry, which resulted in his infertility. Jiang Peng initially sought 500,000 yuan in compensation but only received 50,000. When Jiang Peng returned to the quarry to demand the full amount, he was beaten. Bai Zhigang, with a distorted expression, denies this, claiming he gave Jiang Peng a total of 700,000 to 800,000 yuan. He admits to hiring people to beat Jiang Peng and his associates as a "lesson," and a flashback shows a disturbing scene where Bai Zhigang attacks Jiang Peng with contraceptive devices, viciously humiliating him.

Bai Zhigang is taken into custody on charges of aggravated assault. The revenge plot by Jiang Peng and Yong Zi, however, has tragically impacted innocent lives. The episode highlights the senseless loss of life and potential, all stemming from the cowardice and shamelessness of two individuals. Hui Yingzi, deeply in love with her boyfriend, died because of him. Bai Zhigang's claim of paying Jiang Peng 800,000 yuan is revealed to be a complete lie, but the episode emphasizes that even if true, this doesn't justify Jiang Peng and Yong Zi's actions. It underscores the importance of using legal means to address grievances, rather than resorting to extreme measures that endanger others.

Meanwhile, Gu Zhen picks up Xiao Tang from the hospital. She's still holding the doll Anna gave her. Gu Zhen rushes off to work, leaving Xiao Tang with instructions to heat up some baozi. The case takes a turn as Bai Zhigang, already facing multiple assault charges, reports that Xue Cheng swindled him out of money. This revelation implicates Xue Cheng, suggesting the case is far more complex than simple financial crimes.

The police investigate an elderly woman, Mrs. Feng, who was injured in the incident. She suffered two broken legs. At her home, they discover a man's footprint. Mrs. Feng clutches a few coins, claiming her son came to give her money. The footprint could belong to a scrap collector or the person who knocked over the scrap, but the evidence is weak. The prime suspect is likely a victim from the old Feng Chao case.

Xue Cheng's brother-in-law is revealed to be Teacher Wang. With Bai Zhigang's arrest, Xue Cheng fears exposure, and Teacher Wang advises him to launder the money and flee the country. Anna returns home with flowers and a cake, upsetting Xue Cheng, who is uncomfortable with Teacher Wang moving on after his sister's death.

In an effort to find victims of the Feng Chao case, Kong Rubai visits a food stall. The stall owner was injured while trying to save someone years ago, and his girlfriend left him due to the scars on her face. Kong Rubai has maintained contact with these victims, who have recently received financial aid and a pieced-together letter, clearly from the same person who sent the threatening letters. Yu Yue receives a call from his uncle about a disturbing situation, and he and Kong Rubai rush to the scene, discovering a horrifying experiment underway.
