Criminal Scene: Episode 6

Spoiler Alert

In Episode 6 of "Criminal Scene," the investigation into Liu Ang's murder takes several twists and turns. The knife found in the bar's sewer is confirmed as the murder weapon, and a fingerprint is recovered. Because the sewer was abandoned, the print was preserved. The fingerprint belongs to Lei Wei, the bar owner, who has a known history of violence. This makes Lei Wei the prime suspect, but Detective Gu Zhen feels something is off. A taunting letter addressed to Gu Zhen is found at the scene, stating, "I've been waiting for you to catch me for a long time."

It's revealed that a girl named He Xiao, who was dating Lei Wei, committed suicide over Liu Ang. Meanwhile, Anna's boyfriend finds her covered in blood and unconscious. Kong Rubai visits the surprisingly rundown apartment of Xu Dongyang, a wealthy businessman. Xu Dongyang has a leg injury, claiming he twisted it while taking out the trash. His apartment is remarkably clean. Xu Dongyang and Xiaoxin had broken up, she was only interested in him for financial reasons. After his company went bankrupt, Xiaoxin dumped him. Xu Dongyang had tried to win her back, promising to rebuild his fortune, but failed. He claims to have been on a video call with his father at 3:00 AM, supported by call records. When informed of Xiaoxin's death, Xu Dongyang becomes agitated, insisting it has nothing to do with him and that she deserved it.

Kong Rubai finds Xu Dongyang's reaction strange, and given Xu's obsessive-compulsive disorder, something about his room feels amiss. Lei Wei is brought in for questioning but adamantly denies killing Liu Ang, claiming he did nothing. He mentions He Xiao died a year ago and that they had already broken up before her death. Lei Wei had discovered He Xiao and Liu Ang were previously a couple, and he received a video from Liu Ang, leading to the breakup. Su Qian discovers adhesive residue on the knife along with the fingerprint, suggesting Lei Wei's fingerprint might have been planted using tape. Lei Wei grows impatient, reiterating that He Xiao wasn't worth killing for.

The meticulous nature of the crime suggests it was pre-planned. No fingerprints were found on the spirit money stuffed in Xiaoxin's mouth. After Anna is hospitalized, Xiao Tang visits her with flowers. Anna asks to speak with her privately, and after their conversation, Xiao Tang leaves the hospital in anger. Anna, having survived her suicide attempt, confesses to Xiao Tang that she "gave" her boyfriend, Liu Ang, to her, a claim Xiao Tang rejects.

DNA results prove Lei Wei is not the killer. Gu Zhen notes that there were five waiters on duty that day, but the surveillance footage shows an extra person. Gu Zhen believes the suspect might also be connected to He Xiao. The clues point to the owner of a clothing store, who orchestrated everything to avenge He Xiao.
