Spoiler Alert
This episode of "Criminal Scene" sees the investigative team split into two groups, tackling two separate murder cases. Gu Zhen and Kong Rubai focus on Liu Ang's case, while Yu Yue and Wang Jian are assigned to a new case where the crime scene has been meticulously cleaned by a suspect with a severe cleanliness obsession. Yu Yue, recalling the uneven wall color in Xu Dongyang's living room, suspects a sofa was discarded. They involve the neighborhood committee, but initially fail to find a matching sofa. However, Yu Yue spots a sofa in a corner, previously occupied by a homeless man. After the man is taken away, a thorough search of the sofa reveals a cell phone and a fingernail.
The fingernail perfectly matches the victim's, confirming their suspicions. Meanwhile, the DNA results from Liu Ang's case are in, confirming that he scratched Ke Hai. Ke Hai is unusually calm in the interrogation room. Gu Zhen decides to conduct simultaneous interrogations for both cases. Gu Zhen questions Ke Hai about his relationship with He Xiao, a topic Ke Hai is reluctant to discuss. Regarding Liu Ang, Ke Hai believes he deserved to die for ruining many lives, including that of his 20-something daughter, He Xiao, who was about to get married. Ke Hai reveals that Liu Ang had been filming He Xiao, initially against her will, but she eventually complied when Liu Ang feigned disappointment. After they broke up, Liu Ang sent the videos to He Xiao's subsequent boyfriend, even after she begged him on her knees. Lei Wei, He Xiao's boyfriend, broke up with her, driving her to despair. Ke Hai arrived at his daughter's apartment with her wedding dress, only to witness her suicide. When Gu Zhen asks why he didn't go to the police, Ke Hai expresses his distrust of law enforcement, believing Liu Ang would only receive a short sentence. He chose revenge instead. He also blames Lei Wei, claiming he was He Xiao's "light," but that light was extinguished when she needed it most, driving her to suicide. Therefore, Ke Hai framed Lei Wei. Ke Hai expresses no regret, except that Liu Ang's death was too easy. Gu Zhen informs him that the medical examiner discovered Liu Ang had cancer, essentially giving him a "mercy killing" and costing Ke Hai his own future. Ke Hai remains unrepentant, stating He Xiao's life was too hard, and he only wanted to provide for her, believing money would earn him her recognition as a father and give her a better life, but now his daughter is gone forever.
Simultaneously, Kong Rubai interrogates Xu Dongyang, who maintains his innocence despite being caught on surveillance cameras in the alley where Xiaoxin died. It's revealed that Xiaoxin left crucial evidence on the discarded sofa: a phone recording. The recording captures a heated argument between Xiaoxin and Xu Dongyang, where he discovers she was previously married and had a child. She insults him, calling him a "loser," leading to Xu Dongyang losing control and killing her. The phone recording documents the entire murder.
