The episode opens with Gao Nanxing, a young patient, hiding under his bedsheets, refusing to come out despite his mother's pleas. Qin Wenbin, a seemingly carefree but actually very perceptive cardiothoracic surgeon, passes by and intervenes. He uses a bit of reverse psychology, talking softly to Nanxing's mother, knowing the boy will eavesdrop. Nanxing emerges, and Qin Wenbin explains that the pre-op examination results are back. There's a minor inflammation, but nothing serious, and surgery can proceed once Nanxing's condition is stabilized. Qin Wenbin exudes confidence, reassuring both mother and son.

Meanwhile, the fiery neurosurgeon Liu Ziyi continues her streak of bad temper. Qin Wenbin learns from a student that she recently went through a broken engagement, suggesting her emotional turmoil might stem from relationship troubles. However, Qin Wenbin suspects her fiery personality is more innate than situational. Later, after a meeting, Qin Wenbin takes Gao Nanxing to visit another young patient, Pipi. Through this interaction, Qin Wenbin uncovers the root of Nanxing's rebellious attitude towards his mother: he feels abandoned because she's undergoing IVF treatment with her new husband. Qin Wenbin wisely tells Nanxing that if his mother wanted to abandon him, she wouldn't have brought him into the world in the first place.

On another front, Zhang Chengpeng's daughter, Zhang Yun, finally arrives at the hospital. She's cold and harsh, stating she'll only cooperate to sign the papers authorizing the withdrawal of her father's treatment. Liu Ziyi's initial attempts to reason with her fail.

Jiang Yu, another doctor, faces a different ethical dilemma. An elderly patient is admitted to the ICU, a patient of Gu Shiyi, leading to increased interactions between the two doctors. The elderly man, bedridden for three years, has many children and a grandson about to be married. The family desperately wants the doctors to save him, but the patient, upon regaining consciousness, writes three words: "Let me go." Jiang Yu understands the patient's suffering, the endless pain, and the disorientation of the ICU. He believes that, at this stage, death might be a release. Jiang Yu and Gu Shiyi meet at a coffee shop, where Gu Shiyi realizes it was Jiang Yu who lent her a change of clothes during an emergency. She buys him bread as a thank you. They discuss the elderly patient's situation, acknowledging the impossibility of making such a decision for either party.

Gu Shiyi, still fuming about being tricked with a fake phone number for Ruo Xin, confronts the man pursuing her. He apologizes, claiming it was a "white lie" to prevent breaking up a relationship. Gu Shiyi is disgusted by his behavior and tells him to stop bothering her.

Jiang Yu, seeking accommodation in the talent apartments, strikes a deal with Wang Gaosheng: he'll join the marathon club in exchange for Wang Gaosheng's help with the application. Wang Gaosheng succeeds, and the marathon club gains a third member. In a twist of fate, Jiang Yu ends up living next door to Gu Shiyi, making them neighbors.

Liu Ziyi finally tells her father about her canceled wedding with Guan Yifan. Her father is unconditionally supportive, even slapping Guan Yifan when he comes to apologize. Liu's father runs a dessert shop in the neighborhood. Qin Wenbin visits the shop and, coincidentally, meets Liu Ziyi. Her father, knowing Qin Wenbin is a cardiac surgeon, discusses a neighbor's heart condition. Qin Wenbin provides some advice and precautions but emphasizes that a proper diagnosis requires a full examination.
