Episode Summary
Xu Tongsheng and Shen Ye find an injured Jin Chun. Xu Tongsheng suspects Han Jun's involvement in the past fire that killed his family, based on new evidence about a fan. Shen Ye experiences flashes of recognition related to He Xi. Xu Tongsheng investigates Han's Group and discovers a connection to Han Jun. A retired Civil Affairs Bureau employee remembers the boy from Xu's photo being adopted, but not the date.

The episode opens with Xu Tongsheng and Shen Ye desperately searching for Jin Chun, repeatedly calling out her name. They finally find her being tended to by Han Jun, who claims he just happened to be passing by. Jin Chun explains she twisted her ankle. Xu Tongsheng finds the coincidence of Han Jun's presence suspicious. Shen Ye carries Jin Chun down the mountain and insists on taking her to the hospital, but Jin Chun assures them she's fine, and they eventually return home.
Back at the house, Shen Yi, Shen Ye's brother, is waiting anxiously, upset that he couldn't reach Shen Ye. Shen Ye explains that the house had no power or water, and there was no cell service on the mountain. Shen Yi remains displeased, even giving Xu Tongsheng the cold shoulder.
At his home, Xu Tongsheng receives a call from Jiang Li regarding the two fans he had submitted for examination. The fan Xu Tongsheng provided was from 2005, but Han's Group didn't release that model until 2007. Xu Tongsheng immediately shares his theory with Zhao Zhiyuan: someone posing as a repairman replaced the family's fan with a higher-powered one and loosened the gas valve. Simultaneously, another person staged a construction incident, splashing paint on Xu's father. The strong paint smell masked the gas leak, leading to a short circuit while his father showered, causing the fire and subsequent explosion. The fact that Han's Group released the same fan model two years later points to the Han family's involvement.
Zhao Zhiyuan agrees with Xu Tongsheng's analysis, but since Han Pei was killed in the fire, he believes further investigation is pointless. Xu Tongsheng disagrees and urges Zhao Zhiyuan to submit the case to criminal investigation as soon as possible.
The next day, Shen Ye goes to the fire department to retrieve files. Xu Tongsheng assumes it's about his family's old case and is thrilled to learn it meets the criteria for investigation. However, only He Xi had seen the repairman. Xu Tongsheng takes Shen Ye to a nursing home to visit his grandmother, who immediately recognizes He Xi and calls out his name. Shen Ye experiences a fleeting sense of familiarity but quickly dismisses it, scolding Xu Tongsheng for disrespecting him.
Xu Tongsheng conducts a surprise inspection at the Ducheng Processing Plant. The plant manager, Gao, nervously explains things. Xu Tongsheng pretends to find fire safety violations, taking numerous photos, and asks which Han's Group leader Gao reports to. Gao states it's Han Jun. After Xu Tongsheng leaves, Gao immediately reports Xu's actions to a mysterious figure.
Jin Chun treats Han Jun to dinner, asking about his future plans. Han Jun reveals he's in the process of selling Han's Group and plans to go abroad afterward. They reminisce about high school, and Han Jun surprisingly remembers the title of a book Jin Chun borrowed from him eighteen years ago.
Shen Yi, unable to reach Shen Ye by phone, throws a fit at the criminal investigation department. Shen Ye eats noodles at his usual restaurant and encounters Xu Tongsheng, but they don't interact much. Back home, Shen Yi meticulously questions Shen Ye about not returning on time. Shen Ye locks himself in his room, haunted by images of Xu Tongsheng and others mistaking him for He Xi. Shen Yi prepares warm milk, but Shen Ye doesn't drink it before leaving for work the next morning.
Xu Tongsheng asks Zeng Mingfang to inquire about a retired employee from the Civil Affairs Bureau. The employee remembers the boy in the photo, who was adopted by a refined-looking man. However, the employee can't recall the exact adoption date due to the passage of time.
