Episode Summary
Zhao Chuxi is attacked, but Er Pang saves him. Er Pang single-handedly defeats the attackers. A flashback reveals a past encounter between young Chuxi and Zhang Shengbai. Chuxi resigns from his job. Xiluo confronts Xu Shaoqing about the attack. Xiluo misinterprets Chuxi and Qin Ran's relationship.

The episode kicks off with Zhao Chuxi on the phone with Er Pang, sensing he's being followed.He quickly gives Er Pang his location before hanging up, a smart move because he's soon attacked by a group of thugs.Meanwhile, at the bathhouse, Yellow Hair gets word of the attack and wants to rush to Chuxi's aid, but Qiao Kang holds him back.
Chuxi fights bravely, but he's outnumbered, and things get even worse when Qin Ran shows up. She blames herself, but Chuxi knows these guys are after him specifically. Just when Chuxi's about to go down, Er Pang and Sanqiang arrive with their crew, turning the tables.
Er Pang, furious, demands to know who dared to mess with his friend. He sends Qin Ran to take care of Chuxi's wounds while he handles the attackers. Er Pang makes quick work of them, single-handedly taking them down. Sanqiang, seeing the situation is well in hand, tells his men to head back. Sanqiang suggests calling the police.
News of the fight reaches Xu Shaoqing, who's impressed by reports of a "fat guy" who can take on ten men. Xu Shaoqing orders his people to investigate Er Pang, while reassuring his crew that dealing with Chuxi is just a matter of time.
Chuxi, Er Pang, and Qin Ran retreat to Er Pang's place. Er Pang's grandmother offers some insightful analysis, suggesting this attack might not be entirely bad. She points out that if Chuxi wants to use Xiluo to get ahead, he should have expected this kind of trouble. Chuxi realizes he can't stay at Lang Taosha anymore and decides to stick with Xiluo. Er Pang then shows Chuxi some information he dug up online about Xu Shaoqing: he's the only son of the big boss, Zhang Shengbai. Er Pang is puzzled of the different last name. Chuxi is lost in thought, staring at Zhang Shengbai's photo, recalling a past encounter.
A flashback to the winter of 1993 reveals a luxurious car pulling up in Fenghuang Village, interrupting Chuxi's martial arts practice with his adoptive father. Zhang Shengbai and Li Chengqian are playing chess, with Zhang Shengbai boasting about his business success. Li Chengqian remains polite, but Zhang Shengbai declares that it's a dog-eat-dog world now, and Li Chengqian's principles are outdated. He points to young Chuxi, saying he'll always be at the bottom of society. After making his winning move, Chuxi enters to deliver water. Li Chengqian lets Chuxi make his next move, which leads to an instant victory. Li Chengqian praises him and dismisses Zhang Shengbai. Chuxi runs after Zhang Shengbai, telling him his name and vowing to beat him up when he's older.
Back in the present, Chuxi goes to Lang Taosha to resign. He leaves on good terms, with his boss assuring him he can always ask for help. Qin Ran catches up with him outside, and they spend some time together.
Xiluo learns about the attack on Chuxi and confronts Xu Shaoqing. She scolds him, and even though Xu Shaoqing blames his subordinates, Xiluo threatens him, warning him that if he touches her people again, he'll have to deal with her. Xiluo then goes to Lang Taosha to find Chuxi but runs into Er Pang, who tells her Chuxi is by the river. Xiluo and Lu Yao head there and see Chuxi and Qin Ran together from a distance. Xiluo misinterprets the situation, but Chuxi only sees Qin Ran as a younger sister, someone who understands his struggles.
Xiluo and Lu Yao end up at Fusheng Barbecue, where Xiluo drinks her sorrows away, with Lu Yao keeping her company. Xu Shaoqing is also upset and drinking with his childhood friend. He gets a call saying Xiluo is drunk and rushes out, leaving his friend alone.
