The Quirky and the Charming: Episode 10

Spoiler Alert

In Episode 10, things get messy at the Quanhai Hotel. Lin Youjia and Ling Yishu are at a bar, drowning their sorrows in alcohol. Lin Youjia is heartbroken after being rejected by Yi Ran, while Ling Yishu tries to convince herself that she didn't see what she thought she saw at the hotel earlier. They're clearly not on the same page. Suddenly, Ling Yishu gets a call: Yi Ran apparently fed a child something they were allergic to, and the kid's been rushed to the hospital. Ling Yishu, ever the schemer, immediately orders someone to contact the media and spread rumors of a supernatural incident. Lin Youjia criticizes her for involving the press, pointing out that it will put Yi Ran in the hot seat. But Ling Yishu doesn't care; the worst that could happen is Yi Ran gets fired, which, as she points out, is what Lin Youjia wants anyway.

Meanwhile, the little girl with the mango allergy is out of danger but still needs observation. Xiao Mucheng, the hotel manager, repeatedly apologizes to her mother. Yi Ran, feeling guilty, hides, but Lin Youjia finds her. Yi Ran is distraught, believing she messes everything up and has now implicated the hotel. Some people, secretly hired by Ling Yishu, approach the girl's mother with a lawyer, claiming to be fellow victims and urging her to seek justice. The mother refuses to negotiate and demands Yi Ran's dismissal. The hotel staff, worried about losing Yi Ran, write a petition to Xiao Mucheng. Yi Ran, feeling responsible, submits her resignation. Xiao Mucheng decides to suspend Yi Ran, with further action to be determined.

Xiao Mucheng is unsure how to handle the situation, but after a reminder, he realizes that children are also hotel guests. He visits the girl with gifts, but the mother, furious, throws him out. The girl then tells her mother that she chose the mango cake herself. The mother, angry, blames her daughter for causing trouble. Eventually, the mother agrees to a settlement with the hotel. Yi Ran visits the girl, asking why she ate the cake knowing she was allergic. The girl tearfully explains that she just wanted her mother to care more and that Yi Ran was the only one who had shown her any concern.

With the misunderstanding cleared up, Xiao Mucheng allows Yi Ran to stay at the hotel, albeit with a penalty: she's docked her bonus for the month for violating hotel policy. Then, Yi Ran receives a call that her grandmother is missing. She, Xiao Mucheng, and Lin Youjia rush to find her. They eventually find her wandering the streets, asking strangers if they've seen "Ranran," not even recognizing Yi Ran when she sees her.

Yi Ran's grandmother is returned to the nursing home, and Yi Ran eats the dumplings her grandmother had bought while she was lost, feeling a pang of sadness. It turns out Yi Ran and her grandmother aren't blood relatives. Her grandmother was a long-term guest at Yi Ran's family's guesthouse, and Yi Ran's father, seeing she had no children, treated her like family. After her father's death, Yi Ran and her grandmother only had each other. Xiao Mucheng, hearing Yi Ran talk about her grandmother for the first time, gets teary-eyed, reminded of his own mother. Yi Ran, crying, says that after her father died, she felt hungry all the time; eating became her way of expressing love.

The next day, Yi Ran wakes up in Xiao Mucheng's room! She frantically puts on her shoes and runs back to her own room, confused about how she ended up there. Xiaolu and the others tease Yi Ran about her relationship with Xiao Mucheng. It turns out that a drunk Yi Ran had given Xiao Mucheng a hard time the night before, and he had no choice but to let her sleep in his room.
