The Quirky and the Charming: Episode 7

Spoiler Alert

Episode 7 kicks off with Ling Yishu showing up in Quanhai, ostensibly to collaborate with Xiao Mucheng. However, her real motive seems to be flaunting her successful deal with Tengyue. Her mood sours when she discovers Lin Youjia is staying at Quanhai. Meanwhile, a dramatic scene unfolds at the hotel: a distraught guest, reeling from a divorce, threatens to jump from a balcony. Yi Ran, in a moment of quick thinking, rushes to intervene, concocting a tearful story about being jilted on her wedding day by a man who was already married with twins! This bizarre but effective tactic convinces the guest to step back from the ledge. Xiao Mucheng arrives, but he's not thrilled with Yi Ran's unconventional methods.

Yi Ran is assigned to the housekeeping department, where her colleagues, believing her fabricated story, shower her with sympathy, mistaking her for a victim of a terrible ex. Feeling misunderstood and frustrated, Yi Ran rejects Lin Youjia's offer to transfer her, determined to prove herself in her current role. Xiao Mucheng, under the mistaken impression that Yi Ran has an ex-husband named Li Lei, is further confused by Yi Ran's exasperated eye-roll – it was just a made-up story, after all. He then assigns her to housekeeping training, emphasizing that passing is mandatory for becoming a permanent employee. Yi Ran finds a silver lining in her new, sunlit staff dormitory, which she loves.

The next morning, Gu Xindi calls Yi Ran, informing her about the housekeeping training arranged by Xiao Mucheng. Yi Ran's training instructor, Sister Man, is strict, adding to the pressure. Xiao Mucheng adds another layer of challenge by scheduling nightly exams for Yi Ran in his office. Later, Gu Xindi, wanting to celebrate Yi Ran's new position and apologize for past issues, joins her.

Ling Yishu, in her ongoing quest to one-up Quanhai, seeks investment from Baisiman for hotel financing. Lin Youjia finds Ling Yishu's competitive spirit amusing, especially since Baisiman's boss is also Mr. Lin. Back at the hotel, Yi Ran diligently prepares for her nightly exams with Xiao Mucheng, focusing on memorization, perfecting her smile, and, most importantly, improving her English. Gu Xindi helps by teaching her a few "survival" phrases, which Yi Ran uses to humorously (and successfully) communicate with foreign guests.

Spoilers:

Despite her efforts, Yi Ran's practical skills are constantly criticized by Xiao Mucheng. He assigns her to demonstrate "night turn-down service," leading to a major misunderstanding. Yi Ran, misinterpreting the term, believes she's being subjected to some sort of "casting couch" situation. She dramatically declares her intention to expose Xiao Mucheng's "true colors" and proceeds to get ready. She dons a bathrobe, steeling herself with a "here goes nothing" attitude, and lies down on the bed in a somewhat seductive pose, with a hint of nervous anticipation.

Xiao Mucheng, arriving much later and completely oblivious to Yi Ran's internal drama, is baffled by her attire and posture. Yi Ran, misinterpreting his confusion, throws herself at him. A struggle ensues, and they both end up tumbling to the floor in a heap.
