Episode 8 of With Love with You kicks off with a promise—and it’s broken before the day is even over. Earlier that day, Wang Yan told Liao Fanmu to stay away from her family, especially her younger sister Wang Lingjun. But that same night, Liao Fanmu gets drunk and calls Wang Lingjun in full emotional meltdown mode. He vents, she listens, and just like that, her sympathy for him deepens—and her bitterness toward her sister festers even more.
Fired up, Lingjun drags her sister outside in the middle of the night to demand answers: Why is Wang Yan being so cold to Liao Fanmu? Wang Yan doesn’t give her a straight answer—instead, she flips the script, pointing out something brutally honest. Everyone, including their mutual friend Cao Kunkun, knows that Lingjun has feelings for Liao Fanmu. And guess who else knows? Liao Fanmu himself. Wang Yan spells it out: he’s been using Lingjun’s crush to manipulate her, to get closer to Wang Yan herself. Every time he’s needed to smooth things over with Wang Yan, he’s sent Lingjun in like a peace offering.
But Lingjun doesn’t want to believe it. She can't accept that Liao Fanmu could be that calculating. So instead, she convinces herself that it’s her sister who’s too cynical.
Meanwhile, Wang Yan, unable to sleep after the fight, heads to the hospital to check on their father. Finally, for once, their dad is actually on Wang Yan’s side. He gets it now—she and Liao Fanmu aren’t meant to be. Forced relationships just don’t work.
But then Lingjun shows up. Still angry, she blows up at Wang Yan right in front of their sick father. She goes too far, saying that if her sister is so good at everything, maybe she should’ve treated her own illness too. That stings. Their father steps in and scolds Lingjun, but she only gets more upset, accusing her parents of always favoring Wang Yan. She even says they should’ve never had her. Then she storms out, leaving their father clutching his chest in pain while Wang Yan rushes to help him calm down.
Lingjun, now in a full emotional spiral, turns to Cao Kunkun to vent. She insists her feelings for Liao Fanmu aren’t romantic, but Kunkun isn’t buying it. He calls her out, tells her to get a grip, and warns her to stop being so easily manipulated. If she has to interact with Liao Fanmu, fine—but only to keep things civil. Just don’t let him pull the strings again. Whether Lingjun really understands his advice is... questionable.
Back at home, Wang Yan keeps quiet about the fight. Their mom is completely in the dark, stuck in the middle of whatever unspoken drama is unfolding between her daughters—and her husband. She knows something’s off, but no one’s cluing her in.
Later, at the hospital, Cao Kunkun crosses paths with Liao Fanmu and doesn’t hold back. He tells him to stop using Lingjun, especially as a pawn to win back Wang Yan. Liao Fanmu, caught off guard, has no response.
Meanwhile, at work, Wang Yan has her own frustrations. Lingyue, a major project, is sucking up all the company’s resources—and she’s not happy about it. She vents in front of her colleagues Gao Qian and Li Fei. After Li Fei leaves, Gao Qian tells Wang Yan to give him a heads-up next time before she causes a scene. Wang Yan shrugs it off, reminding him that Li Fei didn’t exactly ask permission when she went behind their backs with Fang Li.
Later, Wang Yan meets Gao Qian again to discuss the Yuanzhou project. He suggests they start building connections, so she tags along to a weekend drinking event where they hope to meet Ye Zhen from Lian Hotel. Fang Li and Li Fei are also there. This time, Li Fei isn’t playing the passive role anymore. She goes straight to Wang Yan and starts drinking with her, glass after glass. Wang Yan sees right through it—something’s off. Sure enough, when no one’s looking, Fang Li pulls Li Fei into a room and demands to know what her problem is. She finally snaps: she’s tired of his fake promises over the past eight years. She’s done waiting—she’s going to fight for what she wants.
As for Ye Zhen? She makes a brief appearance at the start of the event, then disappears. Gao Qian never even gets to talk to her. Later, a friend tells him the unspoken truth: Fang Li has connections up top. He’s not just managing projects—he’s gatekeeping promotions. With Fang Li blocking the way, Gao Qian’s chances of moving up? Pretty much zero.
And that’s where we leave it: relationships strained, alliances shifting, and everyone playing their own game—some better than others. Episode 8 gave us a lot of raw emotion and painful truths, and if this pace keeps up, things are only going to get messier from here.
