"Green Hills Are Home" Episode 20: Recap & Spoilers

Alright, buckle up, because things are getting interesting in Yagou Village!

The episode opens with a boozy dinner. Jiang Menglian is waxing nostalgic about Dong Dalin having to drop out of college way back when. Dad got sick, little siblings to feed – the whole nine yards. Mom couldn't handle it all alone. But hey, Dong Dalin's doing what he loves now, and he thinks Jiang Menglian is his lucky charm. Aww!

Then Gao Guangzhu drops a bomb – a good bomb. Wang Zhiyuan is cracking down on those illegal land grabbers and compensating the farmers who got screwed over. Dong Dalin is stoked! Gao Guangzhu relays Wang Zhiyuan's message: green farming is the only way forward. They need to support the folks brave enough to try new things.

Later, Jiang Menglian and the crew head out, and Gao Guangzhu bumps into Feng Gousheng, the village loudspeaker (literally!). Gao Guangzhu wants Feng Gousheng to spread the word: the village leaders are all-in on green farming. Anyone who joins the cooperative gets free use of the big equipment. Not a bad deal!

Meanwhile, Dong Dalin's trying to find his son online, but no luck. He calls Feng Qiulan, who finds Dong Xin at the mall. Dong Xin apologizes for whatever he did (we don't know exactly what), and Feng Qiulan finally chills out.

On the flip side, Dong Peng and Wang Wei run into Zhang Qianqian and her shady boyfriend, Gao Bingbing. This Gao Bingbing guy is giving Wang Wei the serious stink-eye. Dong Peng clocks that Gao Bingbing is trouble and sends Wang Wei home. He then goes back to warn Zhang Qianqian to be careful about who she dates and that she needs to be responsible. Zhang Qianqian isn't having it. When Dong Peng and Gao Bingbing almost come to blows, she pulls them apart. Gao Bingbing is now officially holding a grudge.

That night, Dong Dalin video calls Feng Qiulan to tell her about Gao Guangzhu's visit. They're both feeling optimistic about the future. But, Dong Yan is borrowing money from her friend Wang Qian and plans to squeeze 300,000 from the compensation money. Zhang Kun thinks his wife is too materialistic and sets a bad example for their daughter. Dong Peng tells Feng Qiulan about the Zhang Qianqian situation, and Feng Qiulan is worried. Dong Peng suggests Feng Qiulan go back and keep Dong Dalin company.

Wang Binzi and his buddies were planning to ask Dong Yan to work on the construction site and just give up their land. But Feng Gousheng's announcement changes everything. They rush over to Dong Dalin's place, all apologies for their past behavior. They accidentally let slip their land transfer plan, which pisses Dong Dalin off.

Feng Gousheng's big mouth gets him in trouble with his wife, Sis-in-law Feng, and they have a fight. Other villagers hear the news and start showing up at Dong Dalin's door, begging to rejoin the cooperative. Dong Dalin secretly calls Gao Guangzhu, who assures him the investment is coming soon.

Inspired, Dong Dalin decides to form a council and tells everyone they need to share the risk. They'll raise funds by selling shares for 10,000 a piece. The more shares you buy, the higher your position. Wang Binzi buys nine shares, making him the biggest shareholder in the village. Feng Qiulan comes home to find a line of people outside their house. Wang Binzi and the others clear out, giving the couple some alone time.

Now, the whole village is going green, scrambling for manure. Everyone's fired up! Wang Zhiyuan is watching closely, pleased with the progress. Then he gets a call – Mayor Zhang is coming to Yagou Village for an inspection. Chen Ling also gets the news, hoping the mayor will visit the construction site. She needs money for the project and asks Old Jiang for next year's rent in advance. Old Jiang says he got fined for using illegal pesticides and won't be renting the land next year. Chen Ling assures Old Jiang that she'll take care of it.
