Green Hills Are Home – Episode 9 Recap & Spoilers

Episode 9 of Green Hills Are Home brings a storm of family drama, backstabbing, and desperate money-grabbing, all wrapped in the rustic charm of small-town life. If you thought things were messy before, buckle up—this episode is a rollercoaster of emotions, secrets, and simmering resentment.

Trouble at Home

The episode kicks off with Dong Yan coming home late, only to find her husband Zhang Kun waiting with questions. She tries to lie her way out, claiming things at the hospital got busy—but Zhang Kun isn’t buying it. He calls her out on the spot, accusing her of losing her humility and forgetting what matters. The argument quickly escalates. Dong Yan knows she's in the wrong but still refuses to admit it, which pushes Zhang Kun to the edge of disappointment.

Marital Tension & Quiet Sacrifices

Meanwhile, Dong Dalin is supposed to be going on a business trip with Lüfeng Company, but seeing his wife Feng Qiulan look so downcast makes him reconsider. Qiulan, touched by his gesture, gets up to help him pack and reassures him by showing support. Dalin, in turn, promises there's nothing going on between him and Jiang Menglian—a promise that seems heartfelt, but the doubt still lingers.

Land, Loans, and Lies

Things take a serious turn when Uncle Sanxia rushes in with bad news: Zhang Dazui borrowed 800,000 yuan from Lao Bazi, using 300 mu of land and a house as collateral. The venture failed, and now the land technically belongs to Lao Bazi. But Lao Bazi doesn’t want the land—he wants the money. Enter Chen Ling, who's already trying to negotiate before Dong Dalin can even react.

Desperate to reclaim the land, Dalin learns the price has gone up to 1.4 million. He's determined to get it back—even if it means borrowing a million from his parents.

Money Games

Chen Ling, ever the strategist, visits the Dong parents trying to secure a loan. She offers a tempting 3% interest rate and says even 300,000 would help. But Grandma Dong sees through her and gently declines. Not one to back down, Chen Ling throws shade, accusing them of favoritism—leaving Grandma Dong momentarily speechless.

Gossip in the Village

Elsewhere, Ma San shows off his flashy new car, drawing a crowd. Sis-in-law Feng, who clearly has beef with Chen Ling, throws passive-aggressive jabs after seeing Ma San getting way too handsy while “teaching” Chen Ling to drive. She makes sure Dong Erlin hears all about it, planting seeds of suspicion about an affair.

Family Feuds

Back at the Dong household, the parents are in a tough spot. Chen Ling holds past favors over their heads, and now both Dalin and Erlin are looking for money. They decide, if they lend money at all, both sons should get 300,000 each to keep things fair. Just then, a fight erupts—Chen Ling and Erlin are at each other’s throats. The parents rush over to break it up, only for Chen Ling to twist the story and blame the fight on their refusal to lend her money. Worn down, Grandpa Dong relents and hands over 300,000 to Chen Ling.

Deals and Desperation

Dalin, with no better option, also goes to his parents but only manages to secure 300,000. After pooling resources with Feng Qiulan, they have 500,000—far from the 1.4 million needed. Dalin considers asking his wealthy aunt next.

Meanwhile, Chen Ling brings her 500,000 to Lao Bazi, promising to deliver the rest within a month. But Lao Bazi isn’t feeling generous—he’s got other buyers lined up and insists on full payment upfront.

Manipulation and Meltdowns

Chen Ling, not missing a beat, decides to attend a family engagement with Sis-in-law Feng, hoping to spread word among richer relatives that she’s looking for high-interest lenders.

As for poor Erlin, he becomes the village laughingstock over his wife’s rumored affair. Drunk and humiliated, he runs into a woman from the neighboring village—Hua’er—and the two exchange WeChats (you know where that might be going...).

Back home, Erlin vents to Grandma Dong, who’s had enough. Furious, she snatches back the family bank card from Grandpa Dong and declares: no more money for Chen Ling.

Final Thoughts

Episode 9 is a tangle of money, mistrust, and manipulation. Chen Ling continues to play the long game, but the cracks in her strategy are starting to show. Dong Dalin’s dream of reclaiming the land is slipping away, and with family unity fraying fast, it’s only a matter of time before this powder keg explodes.
