Spoiler Alert
Episode 5 of Destiny and Saving brings a perfect blend of heart, humor, awkward firsts, and just enough danger to keep things interesting. Let’s dive in.
Mo Xiao Wakes Up (Sort of)
We kick off with Wu Chen tending to a newly awake but mysteriously silent Mo Xiao, who she assumes is mute—just like her companion Xue’er. Little does she know, Mo Xiao is just running his internal energy (a cultivation practice called Xiao Zhou Tian) and can't talk at the moment.
Trying to be helpful, Wu Chen offers him Lingzhi water, which Mo Xiao desperately signals (via blinking) he does not want. But Wu Chen misreads his blinking as joy and keeps feeding it to him. Poor guy just woke up and he’s already suffering.
️ Hunger Games: Mountain Edition
Once Mo Xiao finishes his cultivation cycle and regains speech, he finds the cave empty and tries to go look for Wu Chen. She returns with Xue’er in tow, having failed to find real food—so she eats snow formed into plum blossoms. That’s how desperate things are.
Moved by her struggle, Mo Xiao offers to go find proper food. When he returns with some human-world delicacies, Wu Chen is suspicious (wolves? demons?), but hunger wins. After one bite, she’s hooked. Suddenly, wild berries just don’t cut it anymore.
❄️ Snow Demon Showdown
On his way out of the mountains, Mo Xiao runs into a Snow Demon, and a battle ensues—complete with a collapsing snowy cliff and magical sword barriers. Just as things get intense, Wu Chen inconveniently stumbles into the scene and gets knocked out. Mo Xiao catches her just in time, and she wakes up asking for... sticky rice dumplings. Priorities.
The Snow Demon was no random threat—turns out Chong Guang, a powerful figure, had imprisoned it for ten years and released it on purpose. But he didn’t expect things to go this smoothly for Mo Xiao and Wu Chen.
️ Welcome to the Mortal World
Mo Xiao notices Wu Chen has a strange cold energy inside her and is reminded of Feng Lixue, someone he witnessed die long ago. Suspicious? Definitely.
Now in the mortal realm, Wu Chen is like a kid in a candy store—touching everyone’s faces, fascinated by windmills, and utterly clueless about money. Mo Xiao uses gold leaves (thanks to Xie Lingyun) to buy her everything she wants. He’s shocked at how useful money is; people literally beam with joy when they get a piece.
She even changes clothes right in the street, prompting Mo Xiao to panic and throw away all his gold leaves to create a distraction. Later, he uses magic (with his back turned) to help her into a proper outfit.
Rules Are Meant to Be Broken
Mo Xiao tries to teach Wu Chen some basic social rules—like not to touch people’s heads or belongings—but she ignores every single one. When she complains about his endless rules, he arranges for her to stay at the village head’s house, looked after by a kind woman named Ah Hua.
Ah Hua, sweet but misguided, decides to teach Wu Chen the “magic of beauty”—basically, how to use looks to make men stay. Wu Chen innocently uses this on Mo Xiao, asking “Am I pretty?” just as he’s about to leave. Mo Xiao gently shuts that lesson down, knowing Wu Chen is too naive for such manipulation.
❄️ Ice Queen Unleashed
When Wu Chen finds out Mo Xiao has left, she panics and demands to follow him. The village elders, fearing she’s a danger, tie her up. Ah Hua tries to soothe her, saying Mo Xiao is meant to be an immortal and can’t be with her.
But Wu Chen’s had enough. She uses her Ice Magic, freezes the entire room, and breaks free.
Mo Xiao hears the commotion, rushes back, and finds Wu Chen nearly unconscious in an ice-covered room. He warms her hand, bringing her back. She smiles. He regrets never setting the one rule that really mattered—don’t break my heart.
The Village Turns on Her
The village turns into a pitchfork mob, accusing Wu Chen of being a demon. Mo Xiao swears he won’t use magic to save her—he’ll rely on his physical strength alone. But when he reaches the tower where she was held, she’s gone.
Turns out, Ah Hua secretly helped Wu Chen escape, knowing she meant no harm. Wu Chen thanks her and asks her to tell Mo Xiao where to find her. A sweet moment between two women in a world that doesn’t understand either of them.
Reunion with Dumplings
Mo Xiao eventually finds Wu Chen again and brings her—what else—sticky rice dumplings. She eats while crying, begging him not to leave like that again. He tries to heat water for tea, but fails hilariously. Wu Chen steps in, showing off... until the teapot explodes. She shrugs it off, laughing.
Final Thoughts
Episode 5 delivers emotional warmth, a dose of action, and a deeper dive into the bond between Wu Chen and Mo Xiao. Their dynamic is evolving—from caretaker to companion, from rules to rebellion. But with Shushan growing suspicious and ancient secrets bubbling up, the path ahead is anything but smooth.
Stay tuned—because if Wu Chen’s ice doesn’t break your heart, her dumpling obsession just might.
