Spoiler Alert
Episode 13 of Such a Good Love is a bittersweet blend of nostalgia, miscommunication, and emotional reckoning—set between the present-day summer of 2024 in Beijing and the flashbacks to 2010 in Ezhou. This one’s a quiet heartbreaker, folks.
"AI Got It Wrong..."
The episode opens in 2024 with Tong Leyi chatting on the phone with Su Zihao, who has a job now—but honestly, doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing with his life. They're both curious (and slightly nosy) about what their old friends Zhou Shui and Dai Daji are up to these days. So what do they do? They use AI to predict it, naturally.
The AI spits out a future where Dai Daji is a government worker in Ezhou, married with two kids, and her husband’s also in the system. Zhou Shui, on the other hand, is supposedly a successful film director—single, childless, and living the artistic dream. But after the call, the lighthearted mood fades into something heavier.
Back to 2010 – Ezhou
We flash back to Dai Daji's life in 2010. Her mom sets her up on a blind date with a guy named Yi Shu—whose uncle also happens to be her boss. Daji, not exactly thrilled, pulls out all the stops to sabotage the date. Ironically, her brash honesty and no-nonsense attitude are exactly what Yi Shu finds charming.
After a drunken night, Daji stumbles into the stairwell of a dimly lit grocery store—Yi Shu helps her home. From that night on, he keeps asking her out. He’s funny, refreshingly decent, and kind. But Daji keeps thinking, We’re not from the same world.
She thought coming back to her hometown meant returning to familiar ground—yet nothing feels right, not even the lightbulbs. Still, Yi Shu's influence seems to soften her harsh life. Her boss eases up, and she starts wondering: should she stop resisting and just accept this life?
A Ghost from the Past
Just as things seem to settle, Zhou Shui reappears—uninvited, unexpected, and very much still a ghost from her past. She bumps into him outside her dorm, just as she was about to invite Yi Shu in for tea. To cover up the awkwardness, she introduces Zhou Shui as her cousin and jokingly tells him to call Yi Shu “brother-in-law.” Yi Shu, clueless and friendly, invites Zhou Shui to dinner and even offers to book him a hotel.
Daji? She just wants him gone.
Zhou Shui claims he’s just passing through, scoping out the city before starting a job in film next week. But he’s not fooling anyone. After all, the night Daji got drunk, she called him sobbing, calling herself “less than useless.” That’s why he came—to pull her out of whatever hole she’s in and take her back to Beijing.
But Daji, stubborn as ever, declares she’s never going back.
Fire Hotpot & Cold Shoulders
Zhou Shui checks into a modest inn run by a warm-hearted woman who invites him to try her homemade hotpot. Turns out, Zhou Shui’s parents ran a hotpot place too—so he knows his broth. The innkeeper sees herself in him; she also once followed love to this city and never left.
The next day, Zhou Shui shows up at Daji’s house. It’s lunchtime, so her mom (who’s not exactly subtle with her disdain) lets him stay for a meal. Zhou Shui brings up an old moment at the airport when Daji once asked him a question about their future. He says he now knows the answer: he wants them to be together. Forever.
Daji’s mom shuts that down fast—literally tells him to shave his head. And he does. The next day, he interviews for a job at a local elementary school. He’s not leaving.
To Daji, though, his lakeside declarations of love seem childish. In a moment of frustration, she blurts out that she’s going to marry Yi Shu. Zhou Shui looks crushed. She hands him a plane ticket and tells him to go back to Beijing and make his movies.
The Almost Wedding
Daji goes wedding dress shopping with her mom—who thinks life back home is doing her good (she's even gained a little weight). But Zhou Shui, before boarding the flight, stops by the bridal shop for one last goodbye. Daji urges him to leave, but when he does, her eyes are full of unshed tears.
As he walks away, he asks her one last question: “Will you still remember me years from now?” Daji doesn’t answer. He crosses the street to stand beside her, looking at her in that white dress—and all he can think is: It should’ve been me holding her hand.
Zhou Shui leaves. Daji doesn’t pick a dress. She doesn’t want to. She can’t.
Her mom sees through the tough facade. She encourages Daji to follow her heart or she’ll regret it forever. And for once, Daji listens.
Wearing the wedding dress, she runs to the airport, waving a boarding pass in Zhou Shui’s face like a victory flag. She’s going to Beijing—with him.
The Twist
Back in 2024, Tong Leyi tells Su Zihao: “The AI was wrong.”
Turns out, she recently landed a job at a production company. The producer? Dai Daji. But the signed director isn’t Zhou Shui.
So… what happened?
