"Such a Good Love" Episode 19: Recap & Spoilers
The episode kicks off in Beijing, summer of 2012. Dai Daji (Wang Yuwen) gets a call that no one wants – it's the hospital. Turns out, her mom, has been secretly dealing with some serious stomach pain for the past six months. The doctors suspect it might be cancer. Daji's mother, bless her heart, didn't want Dai Daji to tell Zhou Shui (Wang Anyu), worried it would mess things up with his family before they even get married. Dai Daji is understandably wrecked by this news. She calls Zhou Shui, asking him to take the afternoon off so she can spend some time with her mom. Later, she's back at the office, desperately trying to figure out how to access her medical insurance and housing fund because her mom's medical bills are piling up.
Meanwhile, things get wild with Yaling (Zhang Fan) and Shen Jingshu (Huang Zi Qi). Yaling picks up Shen Jingshu from work during a downpour, and they decide to wait it out. But then, Shen Jingshu's boss, Mr.Liao, shows up in his fancy car. Yaling, for reasons only he understands, completely loses it. He drags Shen Jingshu into the rain and onto his scooter. Mr.Liao, not one to be outdone, sends his driver to chase them in his Rolls-Royce. In a fit of rage (and probably not thinking straight), Yaling crashes into Mr.Liao's car. Seriously, dude?
Back at the office, Dai Daji is stuck ghostwriting for a screenwriter, thanks to Lai Chaoyang. She's hoping to get paid for the first draft, but Lai Chaoyang plays the "we're a startup" card. Dai Daji and Zhou Shui get a frantic call from Yaling and Shen Jingshu and rush to the hospital. Shen Jingshu has a leg injury, and Yaling's sporting a head bandage. Zhou Shui offers Yaling the cash from his card to pay for the damages, but, surprise, surprise, it's nowhere near enough to cover a Rolls-Royce. To make matters worse, Shen Jingshu finds out that Yaling quit his gym job to be her knight in shining armor, and now he's blaming her for the whole mess. Talk about drama!
Zhou Shui and Dai Daji drop off Shen Jingshu and Yaling at home before heading back to work. Daji's mother is worried about them being out so late. On the way, Dai Daji leans on Zhou Shui, opening up about her mom. She remembers her mom working multiple jobs and going to night school when she was a kid, all while being a single parent. Zhou Shui, seeing how exhausted she is, carries her home so she can get some sleep. The next day, Zhou Shui takes it upon himself to add notes to Dai Daji's script while she sleeps in.
Zhou Shui tries to cook for Dai Daji, but ends up filling the kitchen with smoke. Daji's mother sees this and decides to teach him how to cook, even joking that he's more talented at cooking than filmmaking.
Fast forward to 2024. Zhou Shui is having Xiao Juan and her kid over for dinner. While he's giving Xiao Juan a ride to the store, they run into Dai Daji's film crew. Tong Leyi (Zhao Jiali) is bugging Dai Daji about grabbing hot pot later and volunteers to go wait in line. At the restaurant, Tong Leyi spots Su Zihao, Dai Daji's ex, on a date! Jealousy flares, and she storms off, forgetting all about setting up Zhou Shui and Dai Daji. Dai Daji arrives to see what's up, and Tong Leyi drags her away, but not before Dai Daji sees Su Zihao. When Zhou Shui comes to serve them, he stares at Dai Daji.
Later, Zhou Shui finds out from the finance department that Dai Daji's mom is sick. He confronts Dai Daji, upset that she didn't tell him. He wants to share the burden with her. Dai Daji confesses that she's scared, fearing that acknowledging it will make it real. Daji's mother overhears their conversation but pretends not to.
The next day, Daji's mother presents Dai Daji with a pile of cash to cover the medical expenses, plus her savings account with decades of savings. She also wants to transfer ownership of her three houses in her hometown to Dai Daji. To Zhou Shui, she gives a notebook filled with Dai Daji's favorite recipes. Dai Daji is in tears, realizing her mom is giving her everything she has as a dowry, hoping Zhou Shui will take care of her.
Finally, Dai Daji and Zhou Shui take Daji's mother to the hospital for a check-up. The results are mixed – it's not cancer, but she has a rare bladder condition that requires check-ups every six months. Dai Daji puts on a brave face and tells her mom everything is fine.
Meanwhile, Shen Jingshu and Yaling try to scrape together money to pay Mr.Liao for the car damage. Yaling seems reluctant, even suggesting they leave Beijing. Mr.Liao waives the repair costs but insists that Yaling isn't good enough for Shen Jingshu. He proposes a bet to Shen Jingshu, pitting love against human nature. What could possibly go wrong?
