"Such a Good Love" Episode 23 Recap & Spoilers: Truths Revealed and Tough Choices
Alright, buckle up, because Episode 23 gets real. We jump back to Chongqing in the fall of 2024. Su Zihao is out here being a good guy, helping Xiao Juan's kid get into school. Zhou Shui, feeling grateful, showers them with gifts. That night, Su Zihao and Zhou Shui are planning a chill movie night when Su Zihao stumbles upon some ahem interesting files on his hard drive – the kind that could cause some serious drama. He decides it's time to ditch the evidence ASAP.
Meanwhile, Tong Leyi drops a bombshell on Dai Daji – she's quitting. Dai Daji is understandably confused, but Tong Leyi lays it all out: she knows everything about Dai Daji and Zhou Shui's history. Talk about awkward! Su Zihao also confronts Zhou Shui, admitting he's known about Zhou Shui and Dai Daji's past for a while.
Then, Zhou Shui and Dai Daji finally spill the tea. That video everyone saw? It wasn't the whole story. They were separated for a bit, but they got back together and were a couple for a whole decade, starting back in 2017. We get a flashback to Zhou Shui and Dai Daji boarding a plane for a shoot. Dai Daji later finds out that Shen Jingshu was on the same flight. Turns out she didn't go through with the abortion and ended up changing her life because of the kid. Zhou Shui and Dai Daji are heading to Haikou, but little do they know, they won't be coming back together.
In Haikou, things go south fast. With Chao Jie calling the shots, Zhou Shui and Dai Daji have zero power on set. They're stuck in a dumpy hotel while Chao Jie lives it up in a Hilton. To add insult to injury, Chao Jie assigns an executive director to Zhou Shui, telling him his storyboards are useless. Zhou Shui, understandably pissed, gets into a fight with the director after he disses his film experience. He calls Man Jiaxin to complain, but Man Jiaxin doesn't care about Zhou Shui's "artistic integrity" and basically tells him he's replaceable.
Dai Daji tries to smooth things over with Chao Jie, but Chao Jie demands Zhou Shui be fired. Then, Chao Jie pulls a fast one and announces they're scrapping the script and starting from scratch. Zhou Shui loses it and storms off. Dai Daji follows him, and they end up wandering around a school campus. The youthful vibe of the school makes them feel out of place. They reminisce about the good old days and start dreaming about making their own movie. For a moment, the old spark seems to be there. But with the movie title, script, and crew all changed, Zhou Shui feels lost. Dai Daji, who thought they'd have control once the cameras started rolling, is equally disillusioned. Since the story's been changed, Dai Daji decides to walk away with Zhou Shui, figuring they can always go back to shooting commercials.
Zhou Shui sees a student filming a short film and encourages him to submit it to Beijing. Zhou Shui and Dai Daji feel a bit wistful. They head to Chao Jie's office to quit, giving up their credit. Chao Jie suddenly changes her tune, trying to sweet-talk them. But they soon realize she's using a mix of threats and promises to manipulate them. Dai Daji is ready to leave, but Zhou Shui has a change of heart. He refuses to let himself become like Chao Jie's "husband," a washed-up sellout. Tong Leyi and Su Zihao are furious when they hear the story, but Dai Daji and Zhou Shui now understand each other's choices back then.
After all the drama, Dai Daji and Zhou Shui down a bottle of Erguotou. They've done it so many times that it barely affects them anymore. Dai Daji leaves Haikou, but before she goes, she signs her name on the clapperboard.
