Welcome back to another emotional rollercoaster that is Such a Good Love. Buckle up — Episode 9 pulls no punches.
️ Love, Games, and Gut Feelings
We open in 2004 with Su Zihao and Tong Leyi watching the finals of a video game tournament. Life seems sweet — Su Zihao just passed his civil service exam and is this close to landing a government job. He’s excited, hopeful, and wants to share that joy with Tong Leyi. But just as things seem lighthearted, Tong Leyi suddenly gets upset and leaves without explanation.
A few days later, she arranges a one-on-one game match between Su Zihao and a pro gamer. Zihao loses, but takes it with grace. That is, until he sees footage of Tong Leyi filming with the same sleazy gamer — and something doesn’t sit right. His gut tells him Tong Leyi might be in danger. When she later heads out with the gamer and refuses to let Su Zihao tag along, alarm bells start ringing.
A Dangerous Deal
Meanwhile, Dai Daji is dealing with her own crisis. Her boyfriend Zhou Shui goes to the internet café to send out résumés, while she gets a call from Senior Yiming — a “connected” senior who promises he can help her land a job in TV… for a price: ¥20,000. Dai Daji is hesitant, but ends up using her mom’s living allowance to scrape together the money. She plans to deliver it the next day, but Yiming insists she bring it to his place that night before he leaves for a trip. Red flag? Oh, absolutely.
Zhou Shui, on the other hand, has two promising interviews lined up, but Dai Daji doesn’t think they compare to a TV station job. She’s banking on Zhou Shui landing something big — with benefits, a Beijing hukou, the whole package. When Zhou Shui tries to talk her out of going to Yiming’s, it leads to a full-blown argument. He even threatens to break up with her if she goes. She goes anyway.
Red Flags Turn to Danger
Dai Daji arrives at Yiming’s place and hands over the money. She tries to leave but is guilted into staying “to talk about the job.” He pours drinks and starts rambling. She tries to keep things polite, even washing the dishes to avoid the awkward vibes. Then the guitar comes out. Yeah, it’s that guy.
Back in town, Tong Leyi is chasing clout — still hanging out with the gamer dude, hoping for a selfie and some Weibo engagement. Zihao is worried sick, begging her to share her location. She brushes him off. Moments later, when everyone else leaves the internet café, the gamer corners her for a photo — and then kisses her, grossly muttering, “A little model like you is just here to be slept with, right?” Tong Leyi fights him off.
Distress Calls That Don’t Get Through
Back at Yiming’s, things take a darker turn. Dai Daji senses danger and tries to leave. Yiming snaps, verbally attacking her and Zhou Shui. He mocks her dreams, tells her the money means nothing, and that she’s been played. When his advances turn physical, Dai Daji kicks him where it hurts and locks herself in the bathroom. She tries to call Zhou Shui — but his phone is dead and charging in another room. He never sees her call.
By the time Zhou Shui realizes she’s missing, it’s 11:30 PM. Panic sets in.
Collisions and Consequences
Zihao finally tracks down Tong Leyi and finds her mid-fight with the gamer. She beats the creep up and decides to expose him publicly. Meanwhile, Dai Daji escapes the bathroom after hearing silence. Outside, Yiming is passed out drunk. But when Zhou Shui arrives, Yiming plays innocent and tries to twist the narrative — even placing Dai Daji’s lipstick on his bed like a trophy. Gross.
Dai Daji, now broke and shattered, wanders the streets of Beijing alone. She can’t find a way back, can’t reach Zhou Shui, and feels completely lost. The one person she counted on — didn’t pick up. Not because he didn’t care, but because of a dead battery.
The Breakup That (Almost) Was
Zhou Shui finally finds her, and back home, Dai Daji is emotionally wrecked. She tells him she wants to break up. She pulls out a bottle of Erguotou (a strong Chinese liquor) and sets the rules: they’ll break up after she finishes the whole bottle. She coughs, cries, and drinks through her pain. Zhou Shui, unable to take it, grabs the bottle from her in tears.
In a rare, tender moment, he pulls her into his arms. Dai Daji, voice cracking, whispers: “From now on, whoever wants to break up… has to drink a whole bottle first.”
Final Thoughts
Episode 9 is a turning point. The stakes are higher, the emotions raw, and the characters more vulnerable than ever. It’s a brutal look at ambition, trust, and what happens when the people we love can’t protect us — not because they don’t want to, but because life sometimes gets in the way.
Stay tuned. This love isn’t just good — it’s messy, real, and heartbreakingly beautiful.
