Spoiler Alert
Alright, buckle up, drama fans! Here's the latest from "Eat Run Love," and things are getting messy.
So, Ding Zhitong is over the moon because she's getting a fat bonus this year. She's all excited to share the news with Gan Yang, picturing them finally being debt-free and living the good life, running and enjoying Shanghai together. But, uh oh, Gan Yang is MIA, too busy schmoozing at some business dinner to even check his phone. When he finally does get back to her, he's forcing a smile while secretly dying inside. Something's definitely up.
Meanwhile, Song Mingmei is about to hop on a plane and chase her career dreams abroad. She's hoping Qin Chang will beg her to stay, but he just gives her a "bon voyage." Ouch! She's heartbroken that he didn't fight for her, and Ding Zhitong does her best to comfort her before her trip. Qin Chang does show up at the airport for a goodbye hug, but it's clear they're both prioritizing their ambitions.
In other news, Xu Chenxi hears the president's assistant quit and decides to offer Gan Yang a hand. He takes her up on it, but when Xu Chenxi stumbles upon some shady-looking accounts, she wants to call in Ding Zhitong for help. Gan Yang freaks out! He doesn't want Ding Zhitong to worry about his family's financial woes again. Xu Chenxi is actually impressed that Ding Zhitong hasn't asked Gan Yang to pay off her debts, proving she's not just after his money.
Speaking of money problems, Gan Yang heads to Hangzhou to collect some debts, leaving Xu Chenxi in charge of the company seals (important!). Turns out, it's a trap! He gets jumped in a parking garage by some thugs hired by the debtor, Boss Cai. Lucky for him, Ding Zhitong and Qin Yu happen to be there and scare the guys off by yelling for the police. They bail before things get too complicated, though.
Back in Shanghai, Ding Zhitong pays off her debts and tells her mom she can finally come to visit. Gan Yang is lurking nearby, watching her but not revealing himself. He even saves her from getting hit by a car, but pretends it was just a kid who almost fell. He's clearly struggling with something big.
That night, Gan Yang pines outside Ding Zhitong's apartment, not brave enough to face her. She's planning a visit to Liu Yongjuan with him the next day, but then BAM! The police call Gan Yang. His uncle, Gan Kunliang, is suing him for assault! To protect Ding Zhitong from his messy family drama, Gan Yang does the unthinkable and breaks up with her over the phone.
Cue the heartbreak! Gan Yang drowns his sorrows in alcohol, and Xu Chenxi tries to stop him, accidentally getting her clothes wet. Of course, Ding Zhitong shows up right as Xu Chenxi is changing into Gan Yang's clothes. Misunderstanding alert! Ding Zhitong assumes the worst and thinks Gan Yang cheated on her, so she hands over the rent money and takes back the IOU, leaving in tears.
Gan Yang kicks Xu Chenxi out and has a good cry himself, reminiscing about happier times with Ding Zhitong. And in a final act of love (or defiance?), Ding Zhitong tears up the IOU.
So, yeah, get ready for some serious angst in the next episode. Will Ding Zhitong and Gan Yang find their way back to each other? Or is this the end of their "Eat Run Love" story? Stay tuned!
