My Destined Consort: Episode 14

Spoiler Alert

Alright, buckle up, because things are getting dramatic in "My Destined Consort"!

So, Shen Qilan is about to get hitched, and her mom's going all-out. We're talking decorations that put a main wife's wedding to shame. Qilan is buzzing with excitement as she gets ready, but when her brother, Shen Jiangli, comes to wish her well, things get awkward. Zou Yiniang, Qilan's mom, is riding high on her daughter's upcoming marriage to the Lu family and basically snubs Jiangli because she touched Qilan's jewelry after visiting the ancestral tombs. Ouch.

Then, Jing Xiu sends over the wedding candles, the fancy kind usually reserved for the first wife. Zou Yiniang is all about making sure those candles burn all night, because apparently, that means Qilan and her hubby will have a long and happy marriage. This hits Jiangli hard, reminding her of her own wedding night six years ago. Lu Jingming, her husband, got called away for urgent military business, and the wedding candles were snuffed out when he left. Foreshadowing, much?

Jiangli, feeling down, starts digging into the mystery surrounding her own mother's death. She remembers a maid mentioning something fishy about it. There were two concubines in the Shen household: Zou Yiniang, who's loud and can't keep a secret, and Tian Yiniang. Jiangli decides to snoop around Tian Yiniang's room. Bingo! She finds her mother's bracelet hidden in a makeup box. What's that doing there? She snatches it up just before Tian Yiniang returns, looking mighty pleased, like she knows something's about to go down at Qilan's wedding.

And go down it does! Turns out, the wedding dress that was supposed to be delivered from the Lu family mansion is a mess – all ripped up. The maid, Yu Zhu, sent by Wang Danling, acts like it's no big deal, saying there's a spare dress. But guess what? That "spare" is the dress Wang Danling wore at her own wedding!

Zou Yiniang is freaking out, worried her daughter will be humiliated before she even walks through the door. She begs Jiangli for help. Jiangli, even though she's not exactly thrilled with the situation, steps in to save the day because Qilan's always been decent to her.

Finally, Qilan makes it to the Lu family looking presentable. Lu Jingxiu greets her warmly, and everything seems okay until the wedding ceremony. Wang Danling throws a wrench in the works by publicly accusing Qilan of wearing the main wife's robes and trying to steal her place. Qilan is mortified, and everyone's whispering and pointing. Jingxiu is not happy.

Jiangli jumps in to defend Qilan, pointing out that Qilan is wearing her wedding robes, and that Yu Zhu delivered a damaged dress. Wang Danling is left looking foolish. Jingxiu gives her a serious glare and tells her to think about the bigger picture in the future – basically, don't pull a stunt like that again.

Later that night, Lu Jingming redecorates their bedroom to look like their wedding night. He apologizes to Jiangli for the delayed ceremony and promises to cherish her and protect her from any harm. Will he keep that promise? Stay tuned!
