The honeymoon period is definitely over for Shen Qilan! The day after the wedding, she's off to pay her respects to Wang Danling, Lu Jingxiu's first wife. Despite bracing herself, things go south fast. During the tea ceremony, Wang Danling's nasty maid, Yu Zhu, "accidentally" spills scalding hot water all over Shen Qilan's hands. Ouch! Shen Qilan grits her teeth, hands trembling, and holds onto that teacup for dear life, repeatedly addressing Wang Danling as "Madam" until finally, she takes the cup. Talk about a power play!
But Wang Danling isn't done yet. Next up: accounting! She orders Yu Zhu to bring out a huge stack of ledgers and demands Shen Qilan scrutinize every single one. Any tiny mistake, and Shen Qilan gets punished. The poor maid can't stand it and tries to plead for Shen Qilan, but Wang Danling makes Shen Qilan kneel for the time it takes two incense sticks to burn down. Eventually, Shen Qilan collapses. But even that's not enough for the evil Wang Danling, who sends the ledgers to Shen Qilan's residence as soon as she hears she's awake.
Meanwhile, Shen Jiangli is playing detective. She shows her martial arts senior brother the bracelet she found in Tian Xiaozhen's room. He discovers it contains poisonous pills. Apparently, Shen Jiangli's mother has been wearing this bracelet, and the poison has seeped into her system, causing her to become increasingly ill. Later that night, the senior brother walks Shen Jiangli out, and feeling the chill, drapes his cloak around her shoulders, carefully tying the strings. Lu Jingming sees this and is instantly jealous! He storms over, returns the cloak, and replaces it with his own coat. Lu Qingqing witnesses the whole thing and can't help but be amused.
Speaking of Lu Qingqing, now that she knows the senior brother isn't interested in Shen Jiangli, she starts pursuing him. She often finds excuses to share his carriage.
Back at the main house, despite Wang Danling's scheming, a doctor announces that Shen Qilan is pregnant! This is Lu Jingxiu's first child, and he's over the moon, showering Shen Qilan with affection. Wang Danling is furious, seeing her husband, who usually obeys her every word, fawning over another woman.
