Hidden Master: Episode 2

Spoiler Alert

Things heat up quickly in Episode 2 of Jianghu Chronicles, as brooding swords, secret identities, and political intrigue collide in one jaw-dropping installment. Buckle up—because what starts as a father-son standoff ends with a shocking twist involving a one-eyed, sharp-browed vice president.

️ A Son’s Rebellion

The episode opens with Zhuge Heng, heir to the prestigious Jianmeng Sect, refusing his father’s order to return home. The old man sends men to drag him back, but Zhuge Heng is done playing the obedient son. He’s made up his mind—to follow the mysterious Gou Lingfeng and master a legendary demonic sword technique said to “see the moonlight in blade light.”

With nothing left to lose, Zhuge Heng puts a sword to his own neck. The move stuns his father’s men into retreat, and he walks away—not with fear, but with fire in his eyes.

Stalker or Student?

Zhuge Heng becomes Gou Lingfeng’s shadow, pestering him relentlessly for mentorship. Gou, clearly not thrilled to be stalked, insists he has no ties to the demonic sect. He warns: if Zhuge Heng wants to walk a dark path, they'd better part ways now.

But Zhuge Heng doesn’t take no for an answer. He challenges Gou to a duel on the spot. Gou, rather than fight back, literally jumps into a tree and curls up like a turtle. (Yes, really.) He urges Zhuge to join the upcoming Wulin Heroes Assembly instead, but Zhuge scoffs at the idea, calling the institution corrupt and full of hypocrites. Still, a seed of doubt is planted.

️ Secret Skills and Shady Moves

Gou heads to register for the assembly, flying through treetops with some very suspect lightfoot techniques—the kind only the demonic sect is known for. Zhuge Heng sees this and starts putting two and two together. He follows Gou all the way to the registration table.

There, we meet Liu Sanniang, who’s clearly smitten with Zhuge Heng’s dashing looks and status as Jianmeng’s young master. Meanwhile, Gou awkwardly writes “self-taught” under martial school and lists his invented style as “Hard Walnut Fist,” drawing snickers from the crowd. Oof.

Wulin Hierarchy & Hero Worship

Inside the assembly, Liu Sanniang explains the ranking system—Dragon at the top, Rat at the bottom. Glory and rank are up for grabs. Gou is visibly moved by a portrait of a heroic figure called Guangming Xia, revealing that this man once saved him as a child. Inspired, Gou wants to follow in his footsteps.

Zhuge Heng isn’t buying it. He mocks the revered hero, claiming he once gambled away everything at Jianmeng. Air. Fully. Cleared.

Enter Ma Yingdan

During the first round of testing, Gou gets ambushed—literally—by the newly appointed examiner, Ma Yingdan, who shaves off his beard and paints ink streaks under his eyes like it’s a prank show. Things only get worse—despite his insightful answers, his test responses are all marked wrong. Gou fumes, accusing Ma of personal bias.

When he confronts her, he notices a familiar white streak in her hair... and realizes she was the “old granny” he unintentionally insulted earlier. Cue the uh-oh moment.

Ideals Clash

Their argument escalates into a philosophical showdown. Gou insists that true heroes don’t kill the innocent, even if they’re part of the demonic sect. Ma scoffs—saying being a hero is just a career path. You get paid, loved by the people, and no taxes? What’s not to like? If there’s no profit, who’d bother?

To humiliate him further, Ma drags him to a martial strength testing stone. But Gou punches through it like it’s tofu. She kicks him out anyway—for “damaging public property.” Petty.

Twists and Secrets Revealed

Gou assumes Zhuge Heng failed too. Nope. Liu Sanniang gave him a free pass. Gou’s annoyed, but Zhuge uses the moment to spill Ma Yingdan’s dirty secret—she was born with no ability to cultivate martial arts, so she turned to poison to claw her way up the Wulin ranks.

Meanwhile, Deng Yunfeng, a sort of investigator, interviews a witness from a recent case. The only clues? The killer was called “Mo Dan” and had a noble presence, with one eye and a slashed eyebrow. Suspicious much?

The Final Twist

The next day, Liu Sanniang announces a new incentive: bring in useful information and get a promotion. Capture the killer? Triple the rank boost.

Gou’s about to share the witness’ tip—until he sees Ma Yingdan glaring at him. He thinks better of it and tries to settle things with money. She’s not swayed, but surprisingly, He Changzai (another official) suddenly ushers him in to meet the Vice President.

And that’s when everything changes.

Gou stares at the VP’s face—one eye, slashed brow, regal aura. It’s the exact description the witness gave. He swallows his words, drenched in cold sweat. The man he's just been brought to meet… might be the killer they’re all searching for.

Final Thoughts

Episode 2 delivers tension, character development, and just the right touch of humor. Zhuge Heng’s brooding loyalty, Gou Lingfeng’s moral compass (and bad luck), and Ma Yingdan’s Machiavellian tendencies keep the story sharp and unpredictable. And that cliffhanger? Let’s just say—Jianghu has never felt more dangerous.
